Lindsay Lohan is set to return to acting, starring as porn star Linda Lovelace, according to several reports.

A pal of Lindsay’s – photographer Tyler Shields — told E! News’ Marc Malkin that Lindsay was definitely set to the play the ‘70s porn star in a film titled “Inferno.”

Additionally, Wali Razaqui, who is producing the film, told the Los Angeles Times that Lindsay had been cast in the role.

“We’ve all thought that Lindsay would be a great choice for a while now, and we’re all convinced that she is going to do it,” the producer told the newspaper.

Razaqui said, however, that Lindsay would have to dig deep for the role, which would see her play the star of “Deep Throat.”

”[Linda] was so battered and beat up emotionally, that I think it’s gonna take everything Lindsay has to really be able to pull it off,” the producer also told the paper.

“Inferno” is one of two films currently being planned based around the life of the porn star, who turned anti-porn activist, before her death in 2002.

Another film, “Lovelace,” previously had rocker Courtney Love attached. Courtney planned to make her film comeback following her legal troubles, which landed her in rehab in 2005.

Someone who answered the phone at the production company making “Lovelace” on Tuesday told Access Hollywood that they were looking at several actresses for the role of Linda in that biopic.

But Michael - who has been embroiled in a war of words with the Mean Girls star since he attempted to stage an intervention at her Hollywood home last month - is adamant the risque role will prove disastrous for his daughter's already faltering acting career.

He tells UsWeekly.com, "Oh, I don't even want to go there... Come on! Seriously - why? She did "Parent Trap", "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen", "Freaky Friday", "Mean Girls", "Just My Luck" and "Herbie". And you know what? "Georgia Rule" was a fantastic movie.

"People don't give her credit for it, but that was one of her best acting jobs. But I mean, she started with "Parent Trap" and now this? Why? Who makes these decisions?

If I was there, it would never happen, believe me. There's no way to resurrect your career after that. So many people have come to me with offers for Lindsay for great family-style films, general audience kind of releases, but you know ... whatever."





Lohan has struggled to find employment in Hollywood after filming the flop I Know Who Killed Me in 2007, only working on two films since its release.

Yeah, she dropped out in 2008 because she wanted to focus on comedies. She dropped out after the success of The House Bunny.
