View Full Version : Carol Burnett's Biography mention of Liz: X-Rated
Larry Tate 05-03-2010, 04:11 PM Carol Burnetts new Book has a short few page chapter
where she chats about a PW appearance with Liz where Carol's partner was giving a clue for Tweet & gave the clue Twat....................well you can imagine.................Carol said excuse me & he repeated the clue, the audience that was twittering burst into an uproar of laughter, she looked over at Liz & could not see her........................she had fallen off of her chair & was helpless laughing on the floor.
Carol's Partner thought it was the past tense of Tweet if you can believe that.
Allan Ludden smiled & said don't look at me, I am only passing the water around.
Carol sat dumbfounded till the buzzer sounded, Liz was so engulfed with laughter and gasping for air that although she was back on her chair she was unable to respond................the buzzer mercifully sounded & ended the round.
Up to this point PW was shot live at 2 PM every weekday..............after this experience it was taped....................forever more....................................;)
Carol spoke of the mid 1960's but this would have been in the early to mid 1970's so her memory is somewhat off here I think.
There is a nice photo of the three of them there that in have not seen before.

Retro4Life 05-03-2010, 04:30 PM That is hilarious!
I didn't know Burnett had a book out. Can I ask if she includes many memories of the Carol Burnett Show?

I just did a quick glance through it, but yes she has chapters devoted to each of her castmates on the show & as well about many others such as her friend Lucy Ball & others like Joan Crawford, the chapters are quite short.
She does write a fair bit it appears to me about the show but it is more about her & the people she met along the way.

Retro4Life 05-03-2010, 07:31 PM Cool, thanks for the info.
comedyfreak 05-04-2010, 03:33 AM I'll have to get this book.

Are you saying you are not familiar with the term Twat?
It refers to shall we say a Woman's most sweetest place & the destination that we all pine as well as Whine for...............;)

Nevermind...I got it :D
Dr. Thong 05-04-2010, 07:40 PM From what I've read, Carol Burnett was the only one who got Tim Conway to crack up on camera on The Carol Burnett Show. And she did it by uttering a profanity. They all laughed, but I guess it was a big deal because no one had ever gotten the better of Tim Conway.
Larry Tate 05-04-2010, 08:48 PM Nevermind...I got it :D
Isn't it nice to know that this message Board can be both Educational as well as Entertaining, how perfectly Witchly it is to be so.

Dr. Thong 05-10-2010, 02:04 PM That's the equivalent of having a sexy, beautiful naked woman stand in front of you and recite the Gettysburg address: You won't hear a word she's saying.
And even if you did, it would sound like one of the adults on a Charlie Brown special.
Torgo 05-10-2010, 02:27 PM Much better....
MickeyMac 05-11-2010, 05:52 PM ^
Very nice!

Love the adult voices on the Charlie Brown shows. I wonder who came up with that idea.

I believe it was Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez who produced the Charlie Brown specials that came up with that idea.

Cool - I can't imagine the Peanuts specials without that sound effect.

There was one Peanuts special where you actually heard an adult voice off-camera. I don't remember which one, but it was weird. They never did it again.
There was also one where you could actually hear what Snoopy was thinking. It was strange hearing Snoopy dialogue. It didn't feel right. They never did that again, either.
Some things that work in the comics don't necessarily translate to animated cartoons. Besides, I love Snoopy's "voice" when he laughs or gets frustrated. Snoopy says volumes without speaking actual words.
I love how this thread went from Carol Burnett to Charlie Brown.

I guess he told you!....oh wait my name was on there too
Dr. Thong 05-12-2010, 06:46 PM I just realized something: Why is a Carol Burnett thread in the Bewitched forum?
Seriously. Isn't there a general forum or variety show forum for a thread like this?
Is there a Bewitched connection I'm missing here?

Because Liz is mentioned in Carol Burnett's book (they co-starred in the 1963 comedy film Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed?, which also starred Dean Martin).
Dr. Thong 05-13-2010, 10:36 AM Oh! When you said "Liz" I thought you meant Elizabeth Taylor!
