Agnes Moorehead died of uterine cancer at the age of seventy-three in Rochester, Minnesota. She appeared in the 1956 movie The Conqueror, which was shot downwind from a nuclear test site and was one of over 90 cast and crew members to contract cancer out of the 220 who worked on the picture. She is entombed at Dayton Memorial Park in Dayton, Ohio.

God bless you, Agnes - NO ONE played the nightmare mother-in-law quite like you. Plus she left behind quite an accomplished career in film and radio. :rip:

It's really odd that I totally forgot that's what today was and I was thinking about that just a few days ago and how long it has been that she's been gone. Didn't she start to have problems while on the set for Bewitched in the final season? I thought there were some problems with her not showing up for work when she was scheduled to shoot in '71 as she was already starting to deal with the disease that would claim her.
Anyway, I promise that I absolutely won't forget Liz on May 18th when we get to her 15th anniversary of her passing. I couldn't forget that one. :(

What's really weird is that today is also "Walpurgisnacht" (defined by www.answers.com as
1) the eve of May Day on which witches are held to ride to an appointed rendezvous. or
2) something (as an event or situation) having a nightmarish quality.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night
Kind of weird timing.
Anyway, :rip: Ms. Moorehead, you were truly a gifted actress with a very unique and powerful screen presence.

I actually have The Conquerer on DVD. It's really an awful movie. It's so sad that so many of the cast and crew got cancer. Agnes was one of a kind. She's still missed. :(

yes, she did. That's why she wasn't in the show that much toward the end.

I think that movie is also why John Wayne developed cancer.

I think that movie is also why John Wayne developed cancer.
That may be so, but John Wayne was also a MAJOR, long-time smoker - so who really knows? Agnes Moorehead was once quoted as saying she wished she'd "never done that :censored: movie". Can't blame her!

Anyone ever listen to the old radio show "The Shadow"? Agnes was a cast member on that show. Rest in peace Agnes.
