View Full Version : Netflix Ads Are Getting Ridiculous

I normally don't mind legitimate advertising on this site because I know it's there for a reason but the Netflix ads are appearing everytime I click a link. I can't even view a member's profile without seeing them. The only links so far that don't seem to be affected by this are within the blog.

Edit: It appears to be an Internet Explorer issue, I rebooted and I'm running Firefox and so far there's no problems.

^ I know what you mean. I had to switch back to Firefox too. I also had some trouble with that Six Flags ad.

We don't have any control control over the frequency a given ad may appear. Those Netflix ads are run through Google, so they are certainly appearing on the blog where only Google ads are running. During these trying economic times, any paid ads that help defray costs are welcome. If you are running Firefox and and any ad blockers, you aren't really helping.

I understand what you're saying and I realize the ads are there to help defray the costs. The normal banner ads like you said are run through Google but the ones I was referring to are the pop-up ads and they don't appear to have anything to do with Google. I've been accustomed to seeing the banner ads since I joined this site and unless I suspect them of causing a problem with my PC then I don't complain. The pop-ups are continuous and don't appear anywhere on the blog although the banner ads do. Here's two of them if it helps any. If these are legitimate ads put here by Google then I apologize and consider the matter forgotten. Thanks......

There is a 12-hour cookie for the pop-unders, so if you are seeing them continuously you might have picked up some adware from somewhere else. Nobody else has reported anything like you are experiencing. Try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or a similar program.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that.

I have no known adware or spyware on my computer, as I've recently done a complete system check on it, yet those annoying and aggravating pop-up ads still jump up on the screen.

Every move I make while here, even when posting replies in threads.

Anyway, you guys are right, Netflix is the worst one of all!

Netflix ads and Classmates ads are always popping up everytime I get to this site and FF and ad blockers don't seem to work, they are very annoying too.

My blocker is not even fixing these popups. There isn't anything on my computer.

And, I have had them pop up. They don't just pop under.

It's irritating seeing Netflix ads every time I come on this site....if I'm interested, I'll click on it the first time I see it.

There needs to be an option/setting in the control panel to stop all pop ups and pop unders.

or

Make the Netflix and Classmates ads stationary on the site instead of it popping up or under everytime we come to this site.

I have no issues with the pop-unders as long as I'm using Firefox or Opera but I'm bombarded with them with Internet Explorer.

Cosign. I have Avast Anti-Virus, Malware Bytes, and Spyware Blaster. They all report a clean system, but I get the pop-under ad everytime in Firefox but never in IE.

Right now I'm using IE 8 and the pop-unders are atrocious. When I log on the first thing I get is a Netflix pop-under then another one when I click the message boards link then another when I click view new posts then another when I click the links of each thread I want to read or respond to then another when I click reply or quote and finally another when I click submit reply. The only place I'm not seeing any pop unders including Netflix is when I click any of the links from the blog ticker. I do get legitimate Netflix and other ads from Google and I have absolutely no issues with them at all.

With Firefox, I get one pop-under when I first log on and usually have no problems after that. All the pop-unders with IE 8 are from Netflix and with Firefox it will either be Netflix, Classmates, etc... Obviously for me the best solution is to just use Firefox which is what I'm going to do but I just wanted to let everyone know the problems with IE 8

I also have a firewall, but that STILL doesn't stop those annoying pop-up & pop-unders. The damn things find their way in no matter what!!

Have to use the Pop-up Blocker through Comcast, and even THAT is a pain because the pop-ups that you WANT to see, such as going to a link from here, it is blocked and then you have to temporarily deactivate the Pop-up Blocker.

And as soon as you do, here come those damn aggravating Netflix pop-up ads again!!!!! Stuck between a rock and a hard place!!

I am currently using Safari and I still get the Netflix pop-under even though I have pop-up setting turned on.

I wish that they would make the ads stationary or have a setting for each user to turn of the pop-ups and pop unders.

I will try Opera next then IE.

Hey I just noticed that with Safari the Netflix Ad is stationary under the << Previous Thread -Next Thread >> after posting to a thread ?!

Once that Netflix pop-under is gone, the site will be flawless again.

The built-in popup blocker for IE8 kills all of the popups online I see except the ones here - why can these not be blocked? We get the message, if we want to use Netflix, we'll click on the ad the first time we see it.

I still had it with the built-in Firefox (which I rarely use) popup blocker as well. It was the same case - blocked them all except these.

Netflix and Classmates are some of the largest advertisers on the internet, especially on this site. It would not be uncommon to see them when you first login to the site. They are really the only thing keeping the site afloat at this point.

If your pop-up/under blockers aren't blocking them, then you need to complain to Firefox and/or Microsoft. They need to improve them. You should never see more than one pop-under every 12 hours. Some people have no problems viewing the ads and help support the site by not blocking them. We have server costs and other expenses to cover.

The Netflix ads are simply not going to be turned off because they get by your blockers. If the ads are too much for you, then I might suggest you consider start visiting other sites. This is an advertiser supported site. We've run ads since day 1. I know of some sites which prohibit you talking about any ad-blockers or will block your access if they detect you are using an ad-blocker.

Why can't the Netflix and Classmates pop-unders be stationary as pictured below

I was using Safari browser when I took this image capture.

I had some issues with Firefox so I went to SO using IE8, I just finished posting a thread but was bombarded by at least 10 or more pop-unders before I was finally able to submit it. This time however it wasn't Netflix but those stupid screen-savers.

Will this forum ever be made pop-up & pop-under-free? It is very aggravating and annoying!

I only have issues with IE8, I might get an occasional pop-under with Firefox when I log in but that's all. I can deal with that and the normal ads.
