Yep, you got it! :wave: I've got a theory that this is a marketing move to try to distinguish these DVDs from all those crappy public domain Lucy Show DVDs, although many of them don't include his image, either, so I don't know.

Thank goodness Paramount are now slowly bringing out official season releases of "The Lucy Show" that hopefully will slowly wipe out all the awful public domain compilations that have been done of it over the years. They are all inferior and not worth looking at. "The Lucy Show" more than any other show of the 1960's has really suffered from only beeing seen in public domain sets and finally it is being given the type of deluxe release it totally deserves.

since Vivian left The Lucy Show and Desi Arnaz Jr. left Here's Lucy both in the middle of their run.

I'm quite sure that when season four is finally released on DVD, he'll definitely be sharing cover space with Lucy; the only question is, will the publicity photo used be one of them in a "portrait", or one with him glaring or yelling at her?

Actually, Gale Gordon figured almost as prominently into the show in the second season as Vivian Vance, if not more so. The first batch of episodes filmed for the second season -- Lucy Goes Duck Hunting; Lucy Plays Cleopatra; Kiddie Parties, Inc.; Lucy and Viv Play Softball -- did not feature Gale Gordon as they were all shot before Lucy Gets Locked in the Vault, the episode that introduced him to the cast. But from that point on, he was in virtually every episode. Lucy and the Military Academy, Lucy Goes to Art School, Lucy Conducts the Symphony, and Lucy's College Reunion are the only other 2nd episodes I can think of that didn't feature Gale Gordon. In others, like Chris Goes Steady and Lucy Meets a Millionaire, he had a much more prominent role than Vivian Vance, leaving Vivian as little more than a minor player. Her role on the show was greatly reduced after Gale Gordon joined the show, compared to the first season. I've often wondered if that became a source of tension between Lucy and Vivian.

Probably not. I think Viv wanted out, so she probably was glad to have a lighter schedule.

Viv hated the commute and the fact that she was newly re-married herself and away from her husband added to her growing desire to get away from weekly television.

In Season 3, Viv worked it out w/ Lucy where Viv would only appear in roughly every other episode, so it's likely she didn't mind the lighter workload in Season 2.

This reminds me of a question that I've had about Season 3 for awhile. In that season, at least in one ep I've seen, the creative credits just after the opening credits (producer, writer, director) are shown over footage of Lucy & Viv hiding from someone by sinking back into what is either a convertable or a coffin(?). Since it's in color, I'm guessing the scene is from Season 2. Does anyone know which episode that was and what was happening in that scene?

That's correct. And actually, that clip is in black and white as it's from the final moments of the first season episode, Lucy and Her Electric Mattress. That's the episode where Lucy uses stilts to get to the top bunk. The screen credits overlaying that piece of video may be in color, but the video itself is in black and white.

The episodes without Viv are just not as good. Lucy and Viv had such an undeniable chemistry.
