This past weekend I was pleasantly surprised to find a locally produced PBS one hour special produced for the New York area only called "Soupy Sales: The Whole Gang is Here". It did mostly consist of all the clips that already can be found on the official Morada Vision DVD's....which were offered during brief pledge breaks. But what did make this special unique is that on camera commentary was provided by a TV historian and the NJ/NY legendary comedian "Uncle" Floyd Vivino. His program modeled after Soupys' during the mid 1970's premiered on a local NJ UHF station Channel 68, WTVG (nicknamed "The Vivino Gang) the station then became WWHT (Wometco Home Theatre), it eventually was sold many times and changed formats. Though Floyds' program was also syndicated briefly throughout the country in the mid 1980's and actually aired on WNBC in NY, WSBK in Boston, and many other markets. I luckily recorded the Soupy special to DVD and it was a pleasure to see the prince of pies be saluted with a very unique special. Maybe it will air in other areas, but I called the station and they said it was an exclusive.
