Before digital cameras....did you write the date the picture was taken on the back of it?

I'm just curious. Some of our pictures have dates on the back and some don't. The ones that don't make me wonder just when they were taken.

Yes, I started taking photos regularly since 1982 and all of my "master" prints are dated on back. Photos with no date are kind of irritating.

Most of my extra copies are dated but some are not.

And depending where you got your film developed or what camera you used, some photos did have the date on the front prior to digital.

Most of my old photos have the date handwritten on the back. I really like looking at an old picture and seeing my grandma's handwriting on the back. She's been gone for 10 years now, and it is sort of comforting to always have that.

I just obtained a bunch of really old photos from the 40-50s, some even earlier than that, and some of them aren't even marked. I would love to know who some of the people are and what years they are. I did recognize my grandfather when he was like in his 40's though.

I know what you mean. My great-grandma passed away 16 years ago. There are photos that have her handwriting on the back of them. She always (or almost always) wrote the first and middle name of the person or people in the photo. :)

We have pictures like that. It's frustrating not knowing who is in the picture or when it was taken.
