I was at a book store yesterday when I happened to notice a newly released true crime book titled "In the Arms of Evil: A True Story of Obsession, Greed, and Murder." Written by Carlton Smith, the book is about the murder of Jasper 'Jack' Watkins. The back cover acknowledges that the case was featured on UM. In fact, UM profiled the case in 2001.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the case, Jack Watkins was murdered in 1996. That year, his body was found stuffed in a steamer trunk near the Appalachian Trail in Loudoun, Virginia. Since he had no ID with him, Watkins remained unidentified until 2003, when Nancy Jean Siegel was arrested on fraud charges related to the case. She wasn't immediately charged with the murder per se, but she eventually was. Her fraud and murder convictions resulted in her being sentenced to over 33 years in prison.
