I assume you mean the original and not the 2004 Donald Sutherland / Rob Lowe version, right?
Or did you like the both of them?

Whoops, I forgot to put '79.

I had a feeling you meant the original but wanted to make sure.
From my experience people either really like or really hate the new version.

I didn't hate the new version, it was pretty decent. In some ways closer to the book- especially Hauer's portrayal of Barlow. But Hooper's version is far more effective...plus watching it on TV when it originally aired as a kid left a lasting impression on me.

Yeah, I have heard that the 2004 version follows the book more closely.
They did the same thing with Children of the Corn recently... Syfy did a tv-movie that followed King's novel more than the original film. Did that make this good... no.
Back to Salem's Lot... you're right the original was more effective. The new version wasn't as terrifying as the original, it had a pretty low scare factor.
Torgo 04-07-2010, 07:21 AM Dang, I forgot about Silver Bullet and Creepshow...this is why I'm not good with Top 10 lists.

The original Children of the Corn is good up until the part where Isaac steps out of the corn looking like he just stuck is finger in the light socket.
The SyFy remake's main problem for me were the kids, none of them were creepy- the kid that played Isaac just looked and sounded like he was reciting memorized lines. John Franklin and Courtney Gains were creepy.

For the Syfy version they actually casted kids so they were inexperienced and for most it was their first acting gig. So it's pretty obvious why these kids weren't that great.
Syfy mentioned that the kids were "the most difficult part of the film" during the making of it.
