From what I recall, the radio stations didn't report it until Friday, April 8, three days later, and it was in the Saturday papers. It was during my fourth year of college. I was a little stunned, knowing that not long ago I was listening to his original hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Lithium." (I wasn't THAT big a fan just for the record.)

His body wasn't found until the 8th, but it is believed he pulled the trigger on April 5th. A true legend (whether he wanted to be or not), he is still missed.

Also on April 5th, in 2002, Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley died. Creepy...
