As far as I'm concerned, cats rule all the way. I have two, a bombay named Bebe, and a Callico named Callie. They are among my most precious possesions.

I never had any pets, even as a child. As a child, I never asked my parents for a cat or a dog or really much thought about it. My parents told me (rightfully) that it would have interfered with their freedom. My father was an airline pilot and my mother enjoyed travelling when I was a child. I never missed the experience really. Funny thing was a stray cat (about two or three over time) would walk from their unknown house to my parents house and my mother would take them in and feed them and then hold the animal while she watched TV. It was a good deal, we had a pet but never had to pay money for one outside of cat food. When my mother went to bed, the cat went outside and went home. Then late in the afternoon, the cat would come back. We had about three different cats who did this.

I like cats and dogs about equally. I probably like dogs more a bit. Where I live now, dog owners usually let their dogs run loose in the neighborhood. The dogs have their territory outside. I will say that most of the neighborhood dogs are ambivilent to somewhat hostile towards me. There are two small dogs I have named "Beavis and Butthead" who bark bloody murder when I walk on their street. Neither one comes close to me. I will not hurt an animal if the animal does not hurt me first but if they are hostile, I make myself known. There is another pair of small dogs who go nuts if I walk up their street. They are scared of anyone they dont know.

I was friends with a dog of a neighbor who lives a couple of houses away. The dog, who was a male was sort of weird. He was friendly and we bonded and if I was outside would follow me around, even if I was walking out of the neighborhood. The dog would eventually turn back. I sort of hate to say it but the dog was dumb and weird. I could sort of pet him and pet his belly, but this dog (who was young) would always run around, mostly back and forth and in circles. Never still. I made a joke that if a dog could smoke meth, this dog would. Fortunatley I made a video of the dog one day. I never knew his name, to me it was "Dumbass". Fitting for him. One time Dumbass came into my house or a rainy night without me knowing and I am in my living room hearing noises I could not account for, then seeing the dog. I would have let him spend the night but didnt want him to use the toilet on my floor. Probably was good to go since it was late and he was out walking. I put him outside and I guess found his way home.

Then he disappeared and I went to the owner's house and talked to the daughter and she said the dog can ran over by a car and died. I felt bad, but sort of expected. This was sort of a dumb dog. But here in China where I live, people just let their dogs run loose. In their patio is a cage where the dog stays, either in the cage or out running the streets.

Some people here own cats, but all of them run away and not get close. About a week ago, I did pass by a business with a kitten and I picked the kitten up for a moment. So I like both cats and dogs but especially with dogs, wouldnt know the first thing about caring for one or really would want a dog in my house.

Growing up we've always had dogs and cats, so I've never had a preference either way. Going back to my first memories, up to when I moved away from home there was always at least 3 pets.

If you haven't bonded with a cat or a dog - you are missing something in your life.

Some cats are skittish, some not--they are all different as you say.

Cats mostly don't cause the neighbors trouble. Dogs many times do, but blame the owners for ditching them to the yard, to bark. And when they get outside without their owners, that's what they do, especially at night.

I tend to gain more affection from dogs than cats, but I'm okay with cats.

A lot of cat owners who let me pet their felines are surprised when I tell them I'm a dog person.

I've had dogs follow me from their yards, chase me, leap on me, jump on me, lick me excessively, and howl in sadness when they can't get near me. Fred Flintstone has nothing on me with Dino, when dogs see me coming into their door.
