Dorothy on Golden Girls had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

That kid on Malcolm in the Middle (can't remember his name) was in a wheelchair.

Dr. Bob Hartley's therapy patients on The Bob Newhart Show were mostly a very mentally disturbed lot (especially Elliot Carlin! :eek:)

Jason Street of "Friday Night Lights" became paralyzed from the chest down after a football injury on the first episode.


Artie Abrams of "GLEE" became wheelchair-bound after a childhood car accident.

They're British shows, so if you're not from England you may not be familiar with them. However, I do know that "Keeping Up Appearances" has run on PBS in America, so some Americans may also be familiar with some of them. (And if you have cable, they may run on the BBC Channel as well.)
