View Full Version : Do We Really Need A 'Culture Club' Reunion??? Do We Really Care?
Brian Damage 03-22-2010, 10:17 PM He isn't promising anything, but Boy George has said that his former band Culture Club may reunite in 2011 to mark the three decades since their formation.
"I think we could do a one-off gig or maybe a small tour," he told BBC. "It's our 30th anniversary next year, so we may do something."
The band is best known for their quintessential 1980's hits like 'Karma Chameleon' and 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.' Since breaking up in 1986, the band has reunited twice, with a tour in 1998 and a 20th anniversary concert at Royal Albert Hall in 2002. "Last time we re-formed, there was a point to it," Boy George said. "We'll see. It's all about my mood at the time," he added.
Lead singer Boy George, born George Alan O'Dowd, has been plagued with bad press in recent years for his run-ins with the law. In 2006, he was ordered by a judge to clean the streets of New York City as community service, and in 2009 he served four months in prison on assault charges.
But he wasn't eager to talk about that in his radio interview on Monday.
"Please don't ask me about it," he said when asked about the conviction. "Why should I [explain]?" he continued. "They [the listeners] don't need to know what I did."

One very short concert!!  Hey, Cathie, speaking of 80s singers - has anyone ever told you how much you look like Laura Branigan? I grew up listening to her music and was so sad when she passed in 2004. The resemblance is uncanny!!

That's a new one to me! Thanks - that is a compliment imo. I've been told I look like Stockard Channing (yikes), Sandra Bullock (really?), a brunette Helen Hunt (REALLY?) and Lisa Marie Presley (which is probably the closest) but I'll have to add Laura now.
Funny how you percieve yourself....I just think I look like my dad in drag. ;)
catlover79 03-23-2010, 01:35 PM It's definitely a compliment, Cathie. I loved Laura - and her music still holds up today!! :D

It does - she had an amazing vocal range. And I googled some pics of her after seeing your post. Geez, you're right! If I still had my "80s Eyebrows", we could be sisters.
Wish I had heard that before I got the Stockard Channing one.

:D I don't think you look like Stockard Channing at all!
TripperFan 03-23-2010, 02:57 PM :D I don't think you look like Stockard Channing at all!
lol - well, even I'll admit that when I've been a little heavier in weight, my jawline fills out and I do have more of the jawline of Stockard. yeech! lol
My ex-mother-in-law always thought I looked a bit like Celine Dion (!!!!) I don't see that one at all, other than the long face maybe.
One of my brothers could have been George Harrison or Tom Selleck. He looked almost identical to both at points in his life. My mom looked a bit like a brown-eyed Elizabeth Taylor in her youth and then ended up looking like Maude in the 70s so go figure! hahaha
catlover79 03-23-2010, 03:03 PM If you don't mind, Cathie, I took some of your pics from your FB profile to compare them to some Laura Branigan pics I googled. You're right, you could've been sisters. :D Now, can you sing "Gloria" and "Spanish Eddie"? ;)
The first 3 pics are of Cathie and the last 3 are of Laura. :D
TripperFan 03-23-2010, 03:12 PM ^ Freaky!!!
Yah, I WISH I could sing even 1/100th like her. Unfortunately, I was "blessed" with a voice that sounds like 14 cats in heat. lol
Sorry Bri if this has become the "Who Looks Like Cathie" thread.
Poor Boy George....his thread gets hijacked by a nobody. hehe
catlover79 03-23-2010, 03:31 PM Well, what else is there to say about Culture Club? I will admit that when he got busted and had to pick up litter on the side of the road - I was SHOCKED when I saw what he looked like! He looked almost normal!!
TripperFan 03-23-2010, 04:15 PM Actually, I was shocked by his weight gain. For some reason, there's certain people you never picture heavy and he was always one of them.
And I will admit, that I have always liked his two big hit songs. I didn't appreciate them at the time cuz I was still listening heavily to 60s and 70s music, but those I grew to really like - they have a nice "flow" to the medleys. ;)

I cry at that song at the end on the plane, too. But I positively howl at the look on Billy Idol's face when the lady asks, "what's the mile-high club"?

100% ditto... I'm seeing a reformed Spandau Ballet (+ Tears For Fears) later this week, and I can't wait! :)
