Has anyone heard any news whether I Dream of Jeannie will be returning to TV Land?

...but I'm perfectly happy with the repeats appearing on WGN-TV, Chicago, weekdays at 3-4pm(et) [my cable company carries it]. If 'TV Land' started presenting them, there'd be an annoying "bug" in a corner of the screen throughout the program {"Our Latest Dumb Reality Show! Tomorrow 10pm(et)"} and the closing credits would be reduced to a "ticker" at the bottom of the screen, during the last 30 seconds of the episode....you wouldn't hear the closing theme at all! 'TV Land' is too worried about people "switching channels" inbetween shows; that's why they do it. That's one reason why I rarely watch 'TV Land' these days....

As I've said before, I never watch it-I'm not even sure what number it is on my cable system.

No matter what you think of them though; you have to give them credit for one thing; they're sticking with some of the "classic" shows which proves what I read about them on another board-they do listen to the complaints about them and every once in a while, do something about them.
Unfortunetaly though, they shred the shows to ribbons.

...but the "TV Land" I fondly remember and enjoyed watching over a decade ago just doesn't exist anymore- the current one usually presents a bunch of episodes of one "classic" series in one "continuous" block for several hours (especially on weekends), sandwiching them inbetween "baby boomer" movies and insipid "reality" shows. As for their "shred{ding} the shows to ribbons", that's the individual syndicator's fault. They have to pare down each episode to 22 (or 44, if it's an "hour-long" show) minutes to make room for more commercials, and some of their editing jobs are indeed "haphazard". You never used to notice that on the "original" 'TV Land', who scheduled "Retromericals" and their own "filler" {the "Twip" spots, etc.} inbetween those shows. These days, it's wall-to-wall commercials and "promos"- BLEAH!!!! Even the "TV Land Awards" are now more of a "marketing tool" for their network...whoever's the host is promoting something to do with CBS, Paramount, Viacom, or all three {I remember "Cedric the Entertainer" was emcee a few years ago- and the ONLY reason he was tapped for that "honor" was because he portrayed "Ralph Kramden" in that wretched theatrical remake of "The Honeymooners", which Paramount released at the time of those ceremonies...neat idea to tie that into the "TV Land Awards", huh?}.

If "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" returns to 'TV Land', that's okay.

You can blame SOME of that programming on the FCC. From what I've been given to understand, the FCC has some ruling that every station must show some original programming. They cannot exist on reruns of classic shows completely. This is supposedly the reason why GSN has "new" editions of old game shows, TV Land has turned to "original shows", AMC has an occasional new movie running on it, etc.

frankly if i want jeannie i watch her on dvd. tvland has already lost a viewer (me) for their distastorous editing of bewitched. thank heavens for dvds.

i have a funny feeling that jeannie is the second classic due in september. i have all five seasons so i probally won't watch it because of editing. you see when i want to watch a tv show i like to watch them uncut and commercial free.

WGN is now showing the episodes in high definition! yay! she looks so pretty in hi def!

idoj is probally not the 2nd classic the munsters is possibly the second classic because it is on the program exchange list idoj is not. like i care i have her on dvd and the munsters even father knows best they are better than the syndicated version. i was very angry when i watched bewitched on tvland and saw the bad editing.

....Sony did, in their "pre-packaged" syndicated edition that the station carries. Originally, three minutes of commercial time were seen during each half-hour (that was the "standard" of network television advertising, through the late '70s), with the body of each episode lasting about 25-26 minutes. Today, most local stations carry at least two minutes of ads during each commercial break, so three minutes have to be "snipped" from each episode. Local stations used to do that directly on 16mm film prints of the series in the '70s and early '80s, before they got pre-edited "videotape prints"; for example, I recall New York's WPIX-TV omitted the entire "briefing" sequence in the pilot, after Tony returns from the island, when he tries to tell Dr. Bellows about seeing Jeannie...until I saw that sequence, somewhat intact, on {W}TBS in the mid-'80s [and even they eliminated the first minute of that sequence in their print!], I wasn't even aware there was a confrontation between Tony and Dr. Bellows from the start {"Captain, that's the classic fantasy! A beautiful girl on a desert island, a girl who'd do anything for you...do you know who that girl was?"/"No, sir, I've never seen her before in my life!"/"She was your mother."/"My mother's in Salt Lake City, sir."/"I'm a psychaitrist- I know a mother when I see one."}.


I don't know about TV Land, but I do know WGN will continue to schedule "JEANNIE" in the fall, an hour later, at 4pm(et)/3pm(ct). That's good news for anyone whose cable outfit carries WGN on their lineup....if it should also appear on TV Land, that's okay. But don't expect to see any closing credits in their version....
