While Modern Family co-star Eric Stonestreet (Cameron) has launched a campaign to get Delta Burke to play his character’s mother, Sofia Vergara hopes to do him one better. The sexy Colombian actress didn’t hesitate for a second when I asked her who she’d like to see come on the show as mom to her character, Gloria.

“My mother should be Sophia Loren, don’t you think?,” says Sofia, who says she was not named after the Italian screen legend. “She would be perfect. I met her for the first time at the Golden Globes this year. I arrived to rehearse the day before and we ended up waiting together backstage. I was dying. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I couldn’t say anything.”

Sofia has no doubt that Ms. Loren would fit in well with the comedic Dunphys and Pritchetts, reminding, “The Italian comedies she did with Marcello Mastroianni were amazing.”
