Lady GaGa has the potential to be the next Madonna, according to a music video director.

Jonas Åkerlund, who directed GaGa's 'Telephone' video, said that he saw many similarities between the singers.

Åkerlund told MTV: "I really don't like to compare the artists that I work with, because they are all so unique and so different.

"One thing for sure is that Gaga is a true artist. She's really a huge talent, and she's such a hard worker. That makes me think of Madonna, because Madonna is always such a hard worker, more than anybody else."

The 43-year-old, who directed Madonna's 'Ray of Light' video among others, said that a similarity between the artists is their creativity.

Speaking about Madonna, he said: "She's always very creative. She always goes back to creativity.

"She has so much politics around and all these stupid rumors and gossip and all that, and some artists manage to stay above that. So in that sense, I'm fine with comparing [GaGa and Madonna], but then again, they're so different."

Åkerlund admitted that his and GaGa's relationship was still new, but also claimed that she has the potential to be as successful as Madonna.

"I also have 12 years with Madonna and I have two videos with GaGa. It's the future to tell, but I think that Gaga has all the potential and all the tools and all the brain to take her creativity as far she wants to," he said.

"Madonna was early to be one of those artists who thought more about the concept than just focusing on the one thing, and GaGa - that comes naturally for her.

"She sees her character and her career, and I'm happy to be part of it... but it's not me, it's her. Everything comes from her."

The question is - can Lady GaGa keep reinventing herself through the years and enjoy the longevity that Madonna had? I guess that remains to be seen.

I think if she doesn't give the public (and herself) a break people will get tired of her. I really liked her when I first heard about her but I'm just sick of hearing about her now.

My mom finally asked me one day, "who the heck IS Lady GaGa?" I was at my computer and googled the pic of Lady GaGa in the Kermit dress for her. My mom laughed her head off.

That will be hard to do. Madonna has always been the Queen of Reinvention!

She is very bizarre and different, but she has a long way to go to prove herself worthy of being a new Madonna.

OH Nuts!

Well only time will tell; she certainly seems to have the potential.

She certainly has more talent than Madonna ever has had. I was a big fan but I'm one of the folks that got turned off to her because of the overexposure. I honestly can't get in the car and drive to the grocery store with one of her songs coming on the radio, I can't go to a newstand without seeing her on the cover of a magazine (did you hear she is on the cover of TIME with Bill Clinton?:o ) She also seems very full of herself and has a bitchy attitude the way Madonna has had her whole career.
