View Full Version : What would you ask Elly May if you had the chance?
I have the opportunity to interview Donna Douglas for an upcoming book I am working on. As true fans of the Hillbillies, I wondered if you had any questions that you've always wanted answered about the show, or what you would ask her if you could? Let me know and I will do my best to get answers for you. Thanks!
treky 03-17-2010, 02:01 AM when I read the title of this thread I thought you meant what would I ask Elly May Clampett if I ever could:lol:
Anyway, I'd like to know if Donna ever had any troubles with any of the animals they used.
caladon 03-17-2010, 02:22 AM 1) Had the show not been cancelled, would they have eventually had Elly May get married; and if so, who would Donna have liked to have been cast as her on screen husband?
2) Did she have any input regarding her character?
3) Of her co-stars, which, if any offered her the best advice.
4) After the series was cancelled, did she stay in contact with any of the cast or crew?
5) I believe that Frank Inn provided all the animals used on the show; how useful was he in coaching you on working with the animals.

I was thinking that too and would have asked her to marry me, LOL.
I'd ask her if she was ever bitten by Bessy. I heard the chimps bite.
biffbronson 03-17-2010, 11:22 AM Several questions, so please disregard those you believe are inappropriate, etc.:
I would ask her if she found herself really attracted to any of the Beverly Hillbillies guest stars or semi-regulars, like Larry Pennell ("Dash Riprock"), Roger Torrey ("Templeton" twins), or Mike Minor (final season)? Any romances she would care to mention, even without necessarily naming names? Would she care to talk about her film experience with Elvis?
Also: Given her great beauty, did she ever have problems fending off guys who worked on a series or film who came on to her?
Did she ever have a chance to see Linda Kaye Henning recording Jethrine's voice on BH, or was that done totally separately or privately?
Finally, what would she like to say about working on shows like "77 Sunset Strip" and "Route 66?" Did she enjoy the roles?
Thanks, and please impart our love and affection for Donna!!
MickeyMac 03-17-2010, 11:33 AM Was Elvis Presley that aggressive???
Thanks for the responses. I will do my best to get them answered. If you thin of anymore, just let me know. Thanks again.
This may be little broad, but I would like for her to tell about the cohesion of the cast, writers, and directors from her point of view. I have read that Buddy Ebsen was the star who had input and made a great deal of money compared to the others, who were expectedly envious, especially as the show so quickly went to the top. I've also read that Max Baer and Irene Ryan considered Douglas 'very naive,' and often said as much. Was she bothered by such things? And finally, knowing that she got the part largely because she was a real critter-lovin' country girl, who could milk a goat as if it were a nornal task (required in the audition, and other actresses either wouldn't do it or couldn't do it without a look of repulsion), did she perceive any real snobbery against her, somewhat reflecting the premise of the series?

I herd that if you ask her anything about Elvis, she just walks away. I don't know why it really bugs her.
McGillicuddy 01-08-2014, 05:39 PM I wonder if she was afraid of any of the animals she worked with, or if she was ever in danger. I also wonder if Donna is as found of animals as Elly May.

I herd she loved all the animals on the show and got along very well with them.
Fontaine 01-27-2014, 12:44 AM I'd like to ask her if it was true that Raymond Bailey (Milburn Drysdale) was as anti-social as so many reports have said. Also, on a lighter note, how on earth could her character have let Dash Riprock get away?

On one of the Petticoat Junction DVDs, Linda Kaye Kenning speaks about Frank Inn. She said he could teach any animal to do anything.
Disney Rob 01-29-2014, 06:42 PM I heard that Max Baer stepped on either Bessie or Skipper during filming. Don't know if either of them ever bit him, but they gave him the eye until the series end.
Zoneboy 01-29-2014, 08:00 PM I would ask Donna if she ever gets tired of people calling her Elly May. I know Max Baer Jr. isn't the happiest man in the world when people call him Jethro.
Babalu 06-28-2014, 09:19 PM I'd ask her about her Twilight Zone episode which is one of the most popular and my favorite.

I can only assume you mean "Eye of the Beholder" and not "Cavender is Coming."
