Does anyone else find it odd that the friends always get the couch at Central Perk? I mean, it's a coffee shop in Manhatten and yet it's never busy enough that the friends can't get their favorite spot. Yes, I remember the episode where Ross and Chandler had two bullies taking up the couch, but other than that they have claim to that spot 24-7!

now lets think about this....

Central Perk seems to be on a small, secluded back street. Most of the people in NYC either have no time or are tourists so they don't come in to sit down, just grab a qick drink, and most of the FRIENDSnever seem to be at work, except CHandler at his office and Joey's on-going search for an acting job

Well, maybe its not that odd. I have seen in several episodes where there were only a couple of the "friends" and they sat at tables. The majority of the people that come into the coffee shop are alone or in two's so they are not going to take over the entire sofa area. Plus, since the coffee shop is in the apartment building, the "friends" are going to be there more often, more than the people passing by or working around it. So it seems like they get their spots more often because they are there more often. We have a coffee shop similar to this one in our apartment building and most of the people who are there regularly are tenants. The people who work around it only come in before work and get their stuff to go, and at lunch they do the same thing.

Of course the main reason their seats are always open is because the writer's make it that way.

They always get the couch because sitcoms arent real and thats how it is written.:D

There was one episode where Chandler and Ross run into bullies taking up the couch and there were a few times where the get to the coffee house and there are people on there couch. Then they just walk out back to their apartments.
