View Full Version : Maureen & Eve, Not the only co-stars
McGillicuddy 03-07-2010, 10:30 PM Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb are not the only co-stars of a sitcom to "not get along".
Others:
William Frawley and Vivian Vance on I Love Lucy
Suzanne Somers and Joyce Dewitt on Three's Company
Andy Griffith and Frances Bavier on The Andy Griffith Show
catlover79 03-07-2010, 10:34 PM True, but at least Andy and Frances resolved their differences before she passed away.
megamanj2004 03-07-2010, 11:35 PM William Shatner with...most of his Star Trek gang, particularly with George Takei, James Doohan, and Deforest Kelley.
steevo 03-07-2010, 11:45 PM Cybill Sheppard and Bruce Willis - Mooonlighting
Bea Arthur and Betty White - The Golden Girls
James 03-08-2010, 12:12 AM Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams - Laverne and Shirley toward the end
catlover79 03-08-2010, 12:27 AM William Shatner with...most of his Star Trek gang, particularly with George Takei, James Doohan, and Deforest Kelley.
Not to mention Nichelle Nichols.
treky 03-08-2010, 03:08 AM William Shatner with...most of his Star Trek gang, particularly with George Takei, James Doohan, and Deforest Kelley.
that wasn't a sitcom.
And, he made up with James Doohan a couple years before his death. He's also since made up with George Takei, I think.
treky 03-08-2010, 03:11 AM OK, as long as we're also mentioning dramas I'll add: Rock Hudson & Susan St. James on "McMillan & Wife".
comedyfreak 03-08-2010, 03:38 AM I thought Shatner was upset over not being invited to George's wedding?

McGillicuddy 03-08-2010, 07:21 AM Tori Spelling & Shannon Doherty: Tori refused to appear on Beverly Hills 90210 10year reunion retrospective, because Shannon was participating.
catlover79 03-08-2010, 10:28 AM Tori Spelling & Shannon Doherty: Tori refused to appear on Beverly Hills 90210 10year reunion retrospective, because Shannon was participating.
Not to mention Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth weren't exactly best friends. On a similar note, Shannen and her Little House on the Prairie "aunt", Melissa Gilbert, can't stand each other. According to Melissa's book Prairie Tale, years after the show was over, Shannen had slept with Bo Brinkman, Melissa's first husband, while they were still married!!
McGillicuddy 03-08-2010, 07:20 PM Shannon Doherty and Alissa Milano on Charmed. Shannon created quite a few enemies, didn't she!!!

catlover79 03-08-2010, 09:20 PM Jane Wyman and Lana Turner on "Falcon Crest".
Oh yes - things between them got so bad that their scenes had to be filmed on separate days and shared scenes had to be spliced together.
Marvo301 03-08-2010, 09:22 PM Apparently no one in the Partridge Family cast got along with Jeremy Gelbwaks. It's no surprise he was replaced after the first season!
catlover79 03-08-2010, 10:59 PM Well, CHiPS wasn't a sitcom, but Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox did not get along for the most part. I think they eventually patched things up and are on friendly terms these days.
McGillicuddy 03-08-2010, 11:10 PM Linda Lavin didn't get along with either Polly Holiday or Diane Ladd on Alice.
Dixie Carter and Delta Burke (Designing Women) had a major falling out about the time Burke left the series, but in recent years they've become friends again.

But McCormick and Plumb got along well during the show's original filming I believe. It's only been in the years afterward that their feud really got started.
To add to the list, I've read that virtually no one on the cast of "Taxi" got along with Andy Kaufman.

Actually, Susan Olsen acknowledged recently that they never really got along.

Well, Marilu Henner has gone on record saying she liked Andy. I think Carol Kane got along with him, too - but that's about it.

He was pretty weird, from what I hear.

If you haven't yet seen it I recommend the movie "Man In The Moon". It will give you a lot of insight into the weirdness that was Andy Kaufman.

I believed that's why they killed off Lana Turner's character on the show.
It's too bad that none of these people couldn't resolve their differences. It's ok not to be friends with co-workers, but not get so angry that it ruins TV reuions and make it uncomfortable for other people on the show.

That was indeed a good movie - and Jim Carrey did a great job as Andy.

That's exactly why they killed off Lana's character. I think Jane Wyman gave them an ultimatum - "her or me". Their feud went back years and years to their starlet days, when Lana was escorted to some premiere by Jane's boyfriend (and eventual first husband), Ronald Reagan.

megamanj2004 03-10-2010, 02:56 AM that wasn't a sitcom.
And, he made up with James Doohan a couple years before his death. He's also since made up with George Takei, I think.
with Takei, he sort of patched a few things up with him, especially since Takei appeared on the Roast of William Shatner on Comedy Central 4 years ago.
George Takei to Shatner: "By the way, the name's Takei (tah-kay) as in...toupee! And not Takei (te-kye), as you've insisted on the last 40 years!"
When Takei appeared on the Shatner Roast, he was half serious and half funny on there when he was grilling Shatner.
Nichelle Nichols to Shatner: "You wanna make history...so you can kiss my black @$%!"
And I'm not fully sure if Shatner made up with Nichelle Nichols though.
megamanj2004 03-10-2010, 03:00 AM ashton kutcher and topher grace by most accounts dont get along at all
They didn't exactly had that much animosity toward each other. Just that Topher politely asked Ashton not to punk (prank) him though.
They were also recently in the movie Valentine's Day together though.
Hawaii Five-O: There were rumors that Zulu, who played Kono during the 1st 4 seasons of Five-O disliked Jack Lord after he left the show after S4.
The A-Team: Supposedly there was bad blood between George Peppard and Mr. T. Peppard was supposedly jealous that Mr. T. was getting more popularity than him. Peppard was an already established actor while Mr. T was relatively a newcomer to acting at the time. In a interview while The A-team was on the air, George wanted to be interviewed by himself about the show. Then when they invited his fellow cast members, he left the set.
catlover79 03-24-2010, 03:11 PM Also not a sitcom, but according to the Charlie's Angels Casebook - Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd didn't get along.

I wonder if that goes all the way back to Satan's School For Girls '73- which they were both in.
catlover79 03-25-2010, 12:48 AM I wonder if that goes all the way back to Satan's School For Girls '73- which they were both in.
Good question - I have no idea. Jaclyn Smith has stated before that she never knew what started the whole feud, and how uncomfortable she was with the friction going on between her fellow Angels, "because I was in the middle and I liked both of them." (This according to The Charlie's Angels Casebook.)
OOliver 03-25-2010, 05:05 PM How can we forget ~
Elizabeth Montgomery / Dick York ("Bewitched")
Dick Sargent / Agnes Moorehead ("Bewitched")
Paul Lynde / Agnes Moorehead ("Bewitched")
Lauren Graham /Scott Petersen ("Gilmore Girls")
catlover79 03-25-2010, 08:38 PM Oh, what's the story of Lauren Graham and Scott Petersen? I never heard about any animosity between them - I'm curious.
As for Bewitched, I think the EM/DY thing was completely one-sided. Dick York never had anything but kind words and nice things to say about Liz, right up until his death.
According to her biography, Agnes Moorehead loved Dick York and was upset when he had to leave the show and had a very hard time warming up to his replacement. I did read that when she became ill and had to miss a couple of episodes, Dick Sargent sent her flowers. I think that gesture helped things between them thaw a little.
I also never completely understood what the Agnes Moorehead/Paul Lynde situation was about. If anyone can enlighten me, let me know.
McGillicuddy 03-25-2010, 09:52 PM This is the first I've heard of Agnes Moorehead and Paul Lynde having antomosity. I was under the impression that were Friends.
catlover79 03-25-2010, 11:00 PM This is the first I've heard of Agnes Moorehead and Paul Lynde having antomosity. I was under the impression that were Friends.
Ditto! Herbie J. Pilato's Bewitched Forever quotes Paul Lynde's sister as saying: "He loved her (EM). He was also very fond of Agnes Moorehead." So who really knows except for Agnes and Paul, who are sadly no longer with us. :(
OOliver 03-26-2010, 04:33 PM I read about the Lynde/Moorehead and Sargent/Moorehead "friction" on one of the BW forums. Someone was able to dig out an interview with Lynde, a few years after Moorehead's passing, in which he revealed she did not get along with either actor. He alludes to their 'lifestyles' (or something like that) which caused the riff, but carefully does not 'out' Sargent. (I believe Lynde was 'out' at the time). I will try to find it, and post it here.
As for Lauren Graham and Scott Petersen, it was widely rumored that the two of them did not get along at all. In many interviews Graham did during the run of the show and after it ended, she spoke very well and warmly of all her costars. When asked about Peterson, she would simply say, "Next question?"
mstewart 03-27-2010, 05:10 PM Linda Lavin and Polly Holliday on Alice. If you watch Polly's last season on the show you see the friction between them by the way Linda would roll her eyes at Polly in their scenes. You did not see the sisterly interaction between them as it was in the early seasons.

Considering she supposedly had the same lifestyle, I don't think that would be the reason.
bencasey 03-27-2010, 10:47 PM Danny Thomas couldn't stand Jean Hagen, who played his first wife. He also felt that there was zero chemistry between them. That's why he essentially made sure that the first 3 seasons of the show with her are completely unavailable and are unlikely to ever be seen again.

Most sources indicate that Jean Hagen quit the show to return to movies. She was quite unsuccessful in that endeavor and soon poor health forced her into early retirement.

JamesG 03-28-2010, 07:43 PM Oh, what's the story of Lauren Graham and Scott Petersen? I never heard about any animosity between them - I'm curious.
I am not too familiar with this but after some searching I have found that this feud is not true.
From what I gather is that the gossip magazines started some stories about Graham and Petersen not getting along well on the set of "Gillmore Girls".
I found a quote from Scott Petersen about this:
"No, I think it's not accurate. I think it's really inaccurate. And I think people thrive on rumor and innuendo that sells papers and gets people to click on websites.
Lauren has always been pretty much the rock of that whole production. She did the lion's share of the work, and she did it with real aplomb. I wouldn't have wanted that schedule. Not for 10 minutes would I have wanted that schedule.
I mean, that schedule would've broken a workhorse, and she just plowed through it every day, and it was pretty amazing to watch. We would hear those things and just laugh.
We had a very comfortable working relationship. I enjoyed doing scenes with her, because I knew she was going to hit the ball back over the net as good as she got. All of that stuff is just overblown."

You're welcome. And Danny Thomas was apparently very angry that Jean Hagen quit the show which is why he had the writers kill her character rather than just write her out of the show.

Sour grapes, anyone?
Rosslover 03-29-2010, 11:28 PM on the fourth season of FRIENDS and some of the fifth, Helen Baxendale did not get along with any of the cast . Even though it was a short term role , others who did the show mentioned how nice the cast was and how they embraced the guest actors. Helen said that the girls were like a little high school clique.Another actor who didnt get along was in the first season and that was the monkey who played Marcel....David absolutely couldn't stand the monkey,
megamanj2004 03-31-2010, 01:17 AM I got a new here:
Tisha Campbell and Martin Lawrence did not get along towards the end of Martin.
After Tisha Campbell left the show after S4, due to the harassment by Martin Lawrence. During the duration of the 5th season, her was only heard off-camera for most part and when she did appear, they never had any scenes together as much as they did in earlier seasons.

Because that almost caused the show to be cancelled. When the show started, she was a bigger name and star than he was. She had been an accomplished film actress while he was a second-string nightclub comedian. The show made him into a big star while after she left she kind of faded into obscurity. But at the time, she was the bigger performer.

What a shame that things turned out that way. How did the adult stars get along with the kids stars off-screen, does anyone know?

Not sure. But I still never found out why they got rid of Sherry Jackson not long after Marjorie Lord joined the cast. She's in the fifth season (the first with Lord) but in only a couple of shows in season 6 before her character is sent off to college (at age 16!). One of the stories floating around is that as Jackson began turning into a bombshell with a voluptuous figure, that didn't really know how to write for the character. Teen girls on family sitcoms of that era fell more into the cute but not gorgeous category (Noreen Corcoran on Bachelor Father, Shelley Fabares on Donna Reed Show, Elinor Donahue on Father Knows Best). The other story I heard is that Lord felt threatened because Jackson had a much better body than she did. Either way, they got rid of her but then brought the character back a year later with another, not as sexy actress.
catlover79 04-04-2010, 03:23 PM ^ Thank you, Mark. I know that when Make Room For Grandaddy premiered, the character of Terry made an appearance. Was Sherry Jackson or Penney Parker playing the role then?
Yong Fang 04-06-2010, 04:11 AM Bob on Soap was hated by everyone on that show. Billy Crystal even put Bob in the refrigerator once (look it up on Youtube, it's hilarious:lol:  )
Bob died of a heroin overdose in 1984, was recreated into his own coffin and was buried in Forest Lawn.

jasonbigley 04-06-2010, 12:53 PM I didn't know that Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall had a rift between them. They appeared together in ABC's 50th Aniversary Special back in 2003. I read in the Globe that there was a feud between Betty White and Bea Arthur. But since the Globe lies, I am not shure how true that is. We cannot forget that towards the end of Star Jones' run on The View, most of them did not get along with her. Then there was the rift between Rosie O'Donell and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I read somewhere on the show, Out Of This World, there were two actors on that show who fought so badly that there scenes together had to be used with special affects because they would not work together.
