The Golden Girls dealt with many serious issues: gay marriage, racism, AIDS, Alzheimers, to name a few. And often did a pretty good job. But the one that really bothers me is their making light of, even laughing about, Dorothy being unconscious when she first had sex with Stan in high school and got pregnant. Today, that would make Stan a criminal (though, granted, it probably wouldn't back at the time she get pregnant. And I also realize they don't keep that story consistently.) And even though Sophia is always making jokes-that-aren't-really-jokes about Stan being a loser who knocked Dorothy up, it's a "my daughter fell for a loser," not "my daughter was the victim of a crime," kind of hatred.

I never really thought about the things that you mentioned, but I think that you have raised some very good points!

I really hated the story line about Rose being sexually molested by her own Dentist. If they had to broach the subject matter on the show, they should have taken it more seriously, and definitely left out the silly scene where Rose supposedly "got back at him" by making him dance with his own "air hose".
She did, of course, also tell him she was reporting him, but I just thought the whole issue was handled much too casually. :(
