Walt Disney Pictures is planning to reboot the "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" franchise, obviously without Rick Moranis.

"It won't be a sequel to the other films - if only because Mr. Moranis has retired," a crew member of the original film told the site. "Not sure how far it is along, but it is in the works."

The original 1989 film revolves around a nutty scientist who is working on a top secret machine which miniaturizes objects. When it unexpectedly starts working, the machine accidentally shrinks the scientist's kids.

Rick Moranis has retired?? He must be older than I thought.

Frankly, I see no need for a remake. But if they insist on doing it, it should
be Peter Scolari, who starred in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids TV series.

Not surprising, it's Disney after all, they were remaking their own movies long before the Remake Fad of the 2000's came upon us.

I was a big fan of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" and it's sequel "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid." Years later, I bought the straight-to-VHS "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves," but didn't care for it as much.

He's really not that old, he will be 57 this year. His wife died in '91 and he retired in '97. He found to too hard to try and raise his kids while traveling around making movies. It was going to be a short break but after a while he realized that he didn't really miss it.

Thanks for clearing that up. I always enjoyed his performances in the "Ghostbusters" films and the Disney movies (including the voice of one of the mooses in "Brother Bear"; Dave Thomas voiced the
other moose).
