Don't get me wrong, I still like the Jeffersons, I just don't love it anymore. In my opion it just doesn't hold up like other classics like Good Times, What's Happening, etc

Thoughts?

I would agree that in some parts it's dated - but I do love more of the purely comedic eps like when George was stuck in the mental ward. "Wanna buy a PEN!!" That episode was, and is - hilarious.

I admit the one season I try to avoid in reruns was the one where Lionel was MIA and we had Alan played by Jay Hammer.

The 70's episodes were great, once they got into the 80's, it was like another show.

Well any show that runs for 11 seasons is bound to evolve....
I like the early seasons and the later seasons--those middle seasons were kinda blah.

George dancing to disco music was classic!

I agree the episodes became blah. They just didn't have a certain pizazz

What makes Good Times and What's Happening stand the test of time?

Good Times is all about a poor family struggling...very relatable in this day and age. What's happening was about just growing up. I related to it.

YOU COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG!!

The Jeffersons is one of the top 5 sitcoms of ALL TIME!! George is the most hilarious sitcom character ever only next to John Ritter on 3's Company!

Plus the chemistry between the Jeffersons and the Willises was great as well as the chemistry with Florence and Lionel and Jenny.

I still watch the Jeffersons sometimes when it's on reruns.

Yeah. That just seemed like the Twlight Zone. There was no way George was going to let a "honky" live in his house, let alone Tom Willis' son, LOL! Those episodes are just bad to me. They don't even come across very funny. Now there were a few good ones in Season Five but they did not involve Alan Willis.

I think The Jeffersons was a pretty good show but the quality really started to drop off starting with Season Ten (which is now airing on TV One). I've been dvr-ing those episodes and then watching when I have time and most of them are not very good.

I never could stand the "Mission Incredible" series. I mean, come on Tom Willis is not stupid enough to fall for that one and the Jimmy Character really annoys the he** out of me. Had he conned George and Weezy like that in Season 2 or 3 George would have thrown him out on his rear end!

There were a few good episodes thrown in here and there in the last two seasons (Real Men Don't Dry Clean, Otis, The Odd Couple, Some Enchanted Evening, A House Divided, and Blood and Money are pretty good) but I can skip the rest of the last two seasons and not really miss anything.

I agree - with the job losses, the rising costs of living, a family struggling to get by...which average person CAN'T relate to that these days??

That's true but for some reason I can't watch more than a few minutes of Good Times although I'm sure there are some good episodes.

The Jeffersons is just so much funnier.

I loved the first few seasons of the show, but it definitely ran too long. BY the end of the run, Louise was a mere caricature of herself becoming more of a buffoon as time went on (compare Louise in the 80s as to the type of person she was on 'All In The Family'). Same with Florence - she was sleep-walking through the role.

If the series ended after (maybe) five seasons, I think it would have sood the test of time.

No way. Some of the best episodes were toward the end of the series.

Of course ALL programs have tougher time the longer time a show goes on but the Jeffersons never dropped off THAT much.

I have to disagree, I love the show, even today watching reruns! George is just one of a kind!
