The seven castaways of "Gilligan's Island" have found a home at Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment.
The studio and production company have begun development on a feature film based on the iconic CBS sitcom, which generated solid ratings during its three seasons between 1964 and 1967 and then found something close to eternal life in syndication.

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are onboard to produce for Atlas, with Brad Copeland penning the screenplay. Original show producer Sherwood Schwartz is aboard to exec produce along with son Lloyd Schwartz.

Logline's being kept under wraps.

The 98 episodes of "Gilligan's Island," starring Bob Denver as the hapless title character, centered on the wacky misadventures of seven castaways on an uncharted and uninhabited island in the Pacific.

Sherwood Schwartz composed "The Ballad of Gilligan's Isle," which ran at the top of each segment, as a way for viewers to understand the premise. Co-stars were Alan Hale Jr., Tina Louise, Dawn Wells, Jim Backus, Russell Johnson and Natalie Schafer.

Final episode aired on April 17, 1967, with the castaways still stranded as the skein wasn't renewed for a fourth season.

Jon Berg is overseeing the project for the studio.

No casting's been set. Sherwood Schwartz said in an interview last year that he was interested in Michael Cera playing the lead role.

Roven's credits include "The Dark Knight," "Batman Begins," "The Bank Job," "The International," "Get Smart" and the upcoming "Season of the Witch."

Copeland's currently writing "Flight of the Navigator" for Disney, and his credits include "Wild Hogs" for Disney along with "Monster Squad" and "Yogi Bear" at Warners. Smallscreen credits include Fox's "Arrested Development" and NBC's "My Name Is Earl."

I have to think more about the others...

but one that comes to my mind is to have John Hannah (the dude from The Mummy flicks) as "The Professor".

Here are a few suggestions:

Gilligan - Rider Strong or Justin Whalin
Skipper - Michael Chiklis or Jim Belushi
The Professor - Alan Ruck or Michael Boatman
Mr. Howell - Charles Kimbrough or Ted Danson
Mrs. Howell - Holland Taylor or Mary Steenburgen
Ginger - Elizabeth Berkley or Laura Harris
Mary Ann - Samantha Harris (did a great job in Surviving Gilligan's Island) or
Danica McKellar

Of course there's always this:

That guy on The Mentalist could play the Professor. :D

I have no idea how his acting is, but the resemblance kills me.

Simon Baker, the star of The Mentalist, does bear some resemblance to Russell Johnson.

He does, I love it. When I worked at CBS there was this certain Mentalist poster where he looked exactly like him and it scared me every time I walked past it, haha.

I have a friend who just got into GI who *loved* The Mentalist, so she's highly amused. Let's just say she's a Professor fan now too, haha.

Oh my god...We have the same idea for Mrs.Howell, Holland Taylor.

From what little I've seen of "Two and a Half Men," Holland Taylor seems like she'd be fantastic as Lovey.

What about Zooey Deschanel for MA? She always seems kind of innocent and retro whenever I see her in films.

Gilligan : Michael Cera

Sherwood Schwartz has said he would like Cera to play Gilligan.

Edit: Doh! It even says that in the above article.

Gilligan - DJ Qualls (perfect physical build)
Skipper - Kevin James (I wanted my list to be different from everyone elses, but that's just too good)
Mr. Howell - Kelsey Grammer (I'm a biased Frasier fan, but KG does pompous elite oh-so-well); former governor Mike Huckabee isn't an actor, but he's a dead ringer for Jim Backus
Mrs. Howell - damn, I wish Betty White was younger, she'd be perfect. Failing that selection, then Bonnie Hunt. (doesn't quite fit the bill, but she's so funny she'd make it work)
Ginger - Isla Fisher (finally, some real competition for Mary Ann)
Professor - Gary Sinise
Mary Ann - Jessica Alba (back to her roots, literally)

OK I think it's a pretty good bet that Ginger will be easiest to cast. Mrs. Howell will be the toughest to replace as Natalie was a one of a kind.
