I think the title is self explanatory. The sad reality is, many stars that we knew at one time to be guarateed box office magic, are now putting out movies that don't even reach theaters. What actors or actresses do you know that fit this unfortunate profile?

Val Kilmer

He went from huge hits like Top Gun and Tombstone to limited release / direct-to-DVD.

His last major release was a flop... Alexander (2004).

Sharon Stone. She went went from mega-star to not-so-much in a short time. She mismanaged her career.

Eric Roberts started out with such promise but fizzled out pretty fast.

I think Val is the king of direct to DVD now.

I was in Blockbuster last week and I saw his name on a bunch of Direct to DVD movies in the New Release section.

I've heard that when Val Kilmer was on top, that he had a real attitide problem. As time went one, nobody wanted to work with him. I can't think of his name, but it was a famous older director who said that Kilmer was a real jerk and would never work with him.

I don't know... he has some competition against Steven Seagal for that title.

John Frankenheimer regarding The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996).

It seems like I often see Meg Ryan's face on the cover of movies I've never heard of when walking through Blockbuster.

Cuba Gooding Jr. is another one who has gone direct-to-DVD in recent years.

He used to be making the big screen in the early 2000s with The Fighting Temptations and Radio.

I guess being in Norbit and Daddy Day Camp wasn't good for him...

Christian Slater is another prime example of this.

Another example is Jean-Claude Van Damme.

In the early 90s he was a box office hit with Universal Soldier and Timecop to name a couple...

He's been mostly direct-to-DVD the past decade.

Michael Madsen is another who's career has went downhill.

After the two Kill Bill movies from 2004 he hasn't been heard of in mainstream movies; he's been limited release, direct-to-video, and working with Uwe Boll.
