Fred Flintstone. Stoneage character Fred Flintsone had a lot of pent-up anger and his goofy, good-natured sidekick Barney Rubble was his punching bag on the 1960's cartoon series, The Flintstones. Fred was always yelling at Barney, or bopping him on the head, or just plain bullying him. Cripes, he even screamed at him in the Fruity Pebbles commercials. While deep down, I know Fred had love for his blonde haired bud, in general he was downright abusive.

Fred could be pretty self centered but by the end of any given episode he would realize the importance and value of having his family and friends in his corner. so i think he is actually a pretty good friend.

...choosing Fred Flintstone as one of "the worst television best friends of all time" would be virtually the same as choosing Ralph Kramden for the same honor.

"Ally McBeal" would have been a better choice. I can't stand her- and I hardly ever watched her!

The worst TV best friend would have to be Roger Thorpe. Thats the kind of friend as soon as your back is turned he is stabbing you.

That's the best kind of acting of all, since his portrayer - the late, great Michael Zaslow - was the complete opposite in real life! He even won an Emmy playing that lowlife Roger.

My sentiments exactly!!

Don't these people have anything better to do than pick on a classic cartoon character, get a life!
