Which update music do you think was scariest?

1. The "do-do-deet-deet-[pause]-deet-[pause]-deet-[pause]-dut-dut". This is the one that would have the higher pitched, longer notes ascending, plateauing, and then descending a bit, before dropping, which cut in once in a while.

Or

2. The "ba-da-ba-da-ba-dut-dut-dut-[pause]-ba-da-ba-da-ba-dut-dut-dut-'beep, beep'". This is the one would have the high pitched "beep, beep"s here and there. The "beep, beep" was put into the poll question as "doot-doot".

LMAO

You should see me as I try to say these out loud to figure them out. I think the only one I am getting is the 1st one. I can't quite place the second one but maybe I'll figure it out when I was another episode. Actually I think I got it now. It's pretty funny when you realize how hard it is to write out music as words.

ok, I'm gonna vote now.

I find it difficult to work out which is which.

One is slower and the other is more Uptempo.

Always found the more uptempo one more unnerving.

I tell you which is the scariest in my own words.

The one where the writing is on the screen describing the update. eg when the Christophe Day case and when Phillip Taylor Kramer case were updated. That was scary even though it may seem tame to some of you.

1. The "do-do-deet-deet-[pause]-deet-[pause]-deet-[pause]-bup-bup".

Or

2. The "ba-da-ba-da-ba-dut-dut-dut-[pause]-ba-da-ba-da-ba-dut-dut-dut-'doot-doot'"

Hmm, I can't figure out which one's which...

I think the scariest one is the 'text only' in the Dan Wilson segment. Is that the first one?

I know! The second one was especially tough - I was thinking, "okay, how am I going to convey this one?" The first one was not as difficult.

And, of course, they are not completely accurate, but give enough of a jist that most can call them to mind.

The uptempo one you speak of is the second one listed.

Sorry for the confusion. Please revisit my initial post as I tried to give a better description of the two.

You are correct - the written update for the Dan Wilson segment is the first one.

LOL I still can't figure it out but I think the higher pitched one.

Hmmmm... now I was thinking the higher pitched one was the first one. That's the one that reminds me more of a news bulletin. The second one sounds more sinister to me.

Me too, though the more I listen them the more I am convinced they were made on an old Atari ST computer (or possibly Amiga) using MIDI, if someone had access to one of those they could soon remake the tracks.

Haha! Actually, before I begin a new thread, I always do a search, and funny enough, someone years ago asked that same question (though did not make use of the poll).

Is the first one the one most people characterize as the opening "DUH DUH!" theme such as in the Baskins update? THAT one creeps me out the most! If I think about it before bed or anything I need to think of something more pleasant before getting scared. It just pierces into you and gives me the shivers!

The other one sounds kind of plain and simple, but its end beat often works well with showing the captured criminal (such as with the guy who helped break into a home with vampire masks. He has this stupified expression at his sentence and then the music goes "dun!")

The first high piercing one has more of a sinister, intense feel.

Oh, the infamous "Special Alert" type update theme. It's pretty scary, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as some of the music found in the actual segments themselves. Update music has never really bothered me all that much--it's when there's NO update music and RS just talking that they're discovered the body of a missing person in a ravine or creek somewhere (think Matthew Chase) that freaks me out the most.

I think one of, if not the scariest for me (at one time) was the one in the segment for the Devil's Backbone, where it's quiet, and then all of a sudden, they have a "ghost" standing there, with a scream. It creeped me out, particularly because the curtains in my bedroom at the time ALWAYS had a shadow on them at night that was exactly the same shape as the "ghost."

I never found any of the music scary... The theme music was awesome for having a little bit of a creepy sound to it, but it wasn't scary at all to me either.

The only slightly scary bit when it came to updates was how it'd randomly come on towards the end of a segment with that loud "zoom" kind of noise... If you weren't expecting it, it could startle you a fair bit at times.

Actually, I did not include the one that most characterize as beginning "DUH DUH!".

Good observations, though!

LOL! I am actually surprised it is that close - to me, the second is creepier and freaks me out more. But I think that both pieces were designed to be creepy, but creepy in different ways, so as to appeal to those who might not find one or the other all that creepy.

Whatever the update music was when UM was still on Lifetime would always make the hair on the back of my neck stand up, even if I knew the update was coming.

Sorry, just for clarification: the one that people characterize as beginning "DUH DUH!", like the Baskins update, was not included in this poll.

I probably should have.

Plus, there was some confusion as to which was which. It's so hard to write them out.

Hmmm, I think this poll might be tainted, then. :(
