I'm not 100% sure it was Growing Pains, but I'm 99% sure. I remember Mike having a conversation with a teacher or other mentor, and Mike saying "I'm better off having known you." I can't find it to save my life. I saw the episode "Mike, the Director" and while it has the same feel, the quote isn't there.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

It was: "How the west was won, part 2" on April 26, 1988 (by coincidence). Season 3.

I was able to make sure since I have that whole season on DVD, recorded from TV.

It was the scene with Coach Lubbuck & Mike in the kitchen at end of the ep. Mike led a protest to save Lubbuck from being fired. It's the spin-off of "Just the ten of us"
