Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) – I love the progression of her character from the first episodes of Seinfeld to the last. The downward spiral that takes her from almost normal to completely wrecked. She’s funny with the perfect amount of smartass sprinkled in. Many times, her storylines or offhand remarks made the episode for me. Two favorites: the one where a guy tells her she has a big head, and when she pushes Kramer off the porch to steal his babysitting job.

I agree! Here's another of her most memorable moments:

I think the characters of Seinfeld could make their own top 10 list! Elaine, George, Kramer, Newman, Frank, Estelle, the Soup Nazi, Babu, the Drake & Drakette, etc., etc., etc.

Wow. Whoever made that list doesn't seem to have watched much television pre 1990 (with the exception of the Van Dyke and Lucy mentions).
Felicity over Archie Bunker, Maude, Reverend Jim, Johnny Fever, Louie DePalma, Rhoda, Lou Grant, Uncle Fester...(list continues into infinity)???
I like the lists we make here. At least most SO members have a sense of history! :soapbox:

I agree with you! Where's Ralph Kramden? Where's J.R. Ewing? So many great TV characters left off the list and a few questionable ones on it. It seems like this list was put together by a couple of 20 year-olds not familiar with pre 1990's television. I'll take the opinion of the folks here at S.O. over the opinions of this website any day!

Marv, you just described 90 percent of all TV bloggers and online reviewers!
Seriously, though...I do think that most of us could blow these people away in terms of TV knowledge and writing skills. A pity we all simply contribute our talents out of the goodness of our hearts!
