My vote goes to the polyester prince Herb Tarlek! He looked rad in plaid!!

I do have to say that Lady Gaga's Kermit dress tops Bjork's swan dress from the 2001 Oscars.

I don't know; but even though I am straight, I would rather look at Herb Tarlek than Lady GagGag.

The only thing I will say about Lady Ga Ga is no comment.

Herb's style wasnt wild as it was kinda tacky, and loud.

The wild dresser was Venus. Some of his outfits he wore made him look like he should have been singing with Funkadelic.

True!! It would've been hilarious to see Venus and Herb swap outfits for a day.

Just think how crazy both Venus and Herb would have looked if they did that.

Every character on WKRP had their own unique style and it would have been a riot to see any of them swap outfits for a day!!!

Here's what a lot of middle-aged men wore in the '70s, usually in combination:

- An incredibly loud sportcoat, polyester of course, with super-wide lapels
- An incredibly wide and wild necktie
- An incredibly wide belt, often white, with an obtrusive buckle
- An incredibly ugly pair of polyester pants and shirt (very pointed collar ends)

And of course a pair of loafers that usually matched the belt.

While many of those trends were vanishing by the early '80s, the Herb character was right on target as far as lampooning some downright bad fashion trends...!

I always chuckle looking at the tuxes my dad and his groomsmen wore for my parents' wedding back in 1974. My dad and the rest of the men in the party had either white or blue ruffled tuxes.   I asked my parents how/why people dressed like that back then, and they said that was the style, that's all the stores had at the time!! Even THEY thought the 70s "fashions" were ugly.

While the fashions have not stood the test of time, thankfully my parents' marriage has. They celebrate #36 next month.

Congratulations! My parents were around #41 when we lost my dad.

I remember those ruffled looks, and usually blue or white comes to mind. I was in a 1973 wedding as ring bearer, and thankfully we got to wear black -- with a fairly nice-looking grey and black striped ascot. I don't remember them to be bell-bottomed either.

Around that time, there were some massive bell-bottoms coming on the scene. Put them together with your stacked heel shoes and you were stylin'. And of course, let's not forget the dread "leisure suit."

Thankfully, I don't think my dad wore leisure suits. At least, I couldn't find any photos of him wearing one. He worked in a factory during the 70s and wore casual clothes, and on the occasions he needed to dress up, he wore a suit WITH a tie.
