He was diagnosed with cancer (I don't know which kind) and a bunch of us from the class of 1998 are meeting next week for a benefit dinner. I'm just stunned - he is only 30 (6 days younger than me, to be exact). His mom was often a "room mother" for us. First Deanna, and now this news. I will keep everyone posted.

When it rains it pours when it comes to these things. Such awful news. I don't know if this is any consolation, but when I was in high school our valedictorian had cancer and in addition to missing a lot of school, had his leg amputated. I never talked to him, but I heard a lot about him. Amazingly he managed to pull off an impressive GPA and was valedictorian in our class of over 900 students. I saw him in 1996 at our ten year reunion and he looked really good. His bio said that he had gone to MIT and had gotten a ton of degrees. Recently I caught up with him again on FB. Sadly he has cancer again, but seems to be doing well. I hope your friend is as sucessful with his treatments. There is hope.

I found out last year that a friend of mine from HS had died from cancer. It's such an awful disease. I'm sorry that this is happening to you all at once. I'll keep your classmate in my thoughts and prayers Monika. :(

I remember one of Jeff's brothers had major heart surgery when we were in high school. So this came as quite a shock.
