Thanks Mike and Allison. :) I had a bad headache through most of the day yesterday but it feels better now. 40 years ago I did practically the same thing although I ran into our tv set. I cracked my head and went to the hospital that day. Some things you don't forget. I was watching the weatherman this morning and it looks like we're only going to get scattered showers but the winds will be up to 30-40mph on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

I'm glad you're feeling better, Sonny, but please get those nightlights. They could save your life. Don't make me have to buy you one of those, "I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up" necklaces, lol.

Yesterday I went to the drive-thru at McDonalds, placed my order and I was second in line. The person in the car ahead of me pulled up to the first window to pay for her order and then they started carrying on a conversation. I watched the clock in my car and 4 minutes went by before she handed him her money. After he gave her change back, the conversation continued for almost another 2 minutes. I expressed my anger to the manager and told her I didn't mind waiting if there was a legitimate reason but that this was totally ridiculous. I was offered a free .50 apple pie for having to wait but declined.

You're more patient than I am, Charles. I would have hit the horn once it became obvious that their chatting was holding up my order. Some people are so rude.

Has anyone seen the new dry shampoo that is in a spray form? I wonder why they would make something that is so flammable? Seems odd that a shampoo could catch on fire.

Warning: [in all capital letters] Flammable until fully dry, do not use near heat, flame or while smoking. Can cause serious injury or death. Avoid inhalation, avoid spraying in eyes. Contents under pressure. Do not puncture or incinerate. Do not expose to heat or store in temperature above 120F/50C or enclosed spaces that could overheat. Do not use on broken skin. Stop use if rash or irritation occurs.
Is this like the Pssssssst! dry shampoo (http://www.drugstore.com/psssssst-instant-spray-shampoo/qxp308567)? I don't know how long it's been around, but it sounds like a while. I've never seen the appeal of dry shampoo myself. Once my hair gets disgusting, it's going to stay disgusting.

^ I wish your eyesight was better too. At the very least, I hope it doesn't get any worse.

My complaint is that my cat Lily was walking where she shouldn't have, and knocked over a candle holder, which broke. It was a Waterford piece, a gift from a friend, 10 years ago. It looked so pretty there. It's my own fault. I should have known better. She's just a normal dumb animal. Oh well, there are definitely worse things in life.

I'm sorry that Lily knocked over the candleholder and that it broke. You just never know what to expect with animals. I remember when Romeo knocked over my Lenox Mickey Mouse. I guess sometimes cats get too curious for their own good. Can the candleholder be fixed?
No, it was crystal, and it's in a hundred pieces. Did Romeo break Mickey? Is that the one I gave you?

lol, you're the 2nd person to suggest that. But what job could I get there that doesn't require a degree? Well, plenty, I'm sure. But I know to live in NYC, you *need* a degree, pretty much. :/ So, I dunno.

Janice
09-23-2011, 03:54 PM
Yes, it was the Mickey's treasure chest you gave me. Last year Romeo broke Mickey's treasure chest. I called up Lenox and I was able to get a replacement one at a discounted 50% price. Mickey is securely mounted on the pretty red picture frame that has the hearts inside it. It's the frame you sent me. :)
That sounds familiar. I'm pretty sure you told me that before. :)

yes, Janice, unfortunetaly, again. I wasn't surprised though, since she said she's from the U.S. but is now living and working in Nigeria; which is a "hot spot" for internet scams. Also her reason for going there didn't make sense and she said she wants to come back to the U.S. but needs $400. She said she'd never ask me for it, but then she asked me for part of it. I said she could go to the U.S. embassy (which you can-they lend money to stranded travelers overseas) and gave her their phone number & e-mail, but she said they can't help financally, which sounded like she's trying to hide something and was afraid they'd find out, so because of all that I conducted a backround check on her. It cost me $340 but it waas well worth it.

Now I've met someone else, and I also did a backround check on her, but thankfully she checks out.

He shouldn't give up. Just because he's run into a few bad apples don't try to make him think that the whole concept of romance should be avoided.

Your family and friends can only provide so much comfort. They love you, certainly, but when you are an adult and living on your own, everyone else usually has families of their OWN that occupy most of their time. For all you know, his family might not even live close to him...for that matter he may not even have much.

Joe, I would encourage you to keep the hope of romance alive, while being very cautious about who you hook up with. Keep your standards high, don't feel "less than" anyone else just because you are single, enjoy your own company when you can, and have confidence that there is someone out there who will appreciate and be drawn to you for the right reasons, not for shady ones. It's a big world and everybody needs love. The important thing to realize, IMO, is that even if you don't have love right now, you DESERVE to have it.

The girl I said I did a background check on, and she was ok? Well, now, after she said she'd never ask me for money, she has! But, when I told her I couldn't she let the issue drop.

THAT'S IT!!! From now on EVERY woman I meet on-line, no matter where they're from, or how sincere they sound, even if they don't ask me for money, they're getting a THOROUGH, 100%background check!!!

Now that she's not a store manager anymore, I can call her a really good friend. My friend's last day was yesterday, and dammit, I miss her. :( We got especially close the past week... Yesterday, she said to me, "You're my long-lost sister! Seriously!" We actually swapped phone numbers and have discussed how to get together. She'll be living 2 hours away from where some of my family live... Plus I haven't been down there to visit them in 11 years (they have been up to my state to visit us, but *I* haven't gone to their state to visit them in that long). So hopefully soon... like the summer of 2012 sometime. She has family in this state about 1 1/2 hours from me so that would be cool for her to come visit too :)

This job assignment has seriously changed my life. I love it. But not her moving away part 1 1/2 months into my assignment. :(

As for me, I'm an idiot. The other day, I was cleaning my bathroom. I grabbed what I thought was the can of scrubbing bubbles cleaner. Agreed... Been a while since that has happened to me. :) What's really cool, though, is how we're pretty much on the same wavelength. I overslept one day last week and missed my alarm completely - so when I woke up, I was *already* late for work. I texted her right when I got up about missing my alarm, and she texted back later that the same thing had happened to her today!! (last week, lol) Only she'd accidentally set it for in the evening.

Then over the weekend I scored a houndstooth coat for almost 75% off. Texted her about that. Then she texted back that she almost got one herself that weekend.

(Sigh. I miss her...)

I'm ready for my transfer here to be done... Just over 3 weeks left. I love it here, but so much has changed in the last month. The sooner I go back to my store, the better.

I wish I could merge my store with the one here... THen I could have the best of both worlds. :)

That's a tough one. I was at a job for just over seven years. Everyone in the Department was so close. It was hard saying good-bye when anyone left. When it was my time to move on, I called in sick the last day on the job. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle saying good-bye. Driving home on my last day (I knew I wasn't coming in the next day), it was pouring out, and I was crying my head off. It was like a movie. I couldn't write it any better, lol.

Sorry I trailed off to my story; just saying I can definitely relate. You'll find that more often than not, you won't stay in touch. You say you will and truly believe you will, but life is so busy. You'll get close with other workers. I stayed in touch at first, with lunches and things, but now I'm down to exchanging Christmas cards with one of them.

I call these people "situational friends". Great friends while we were neighbors, in college, co-workers, in-laws (maybe). When the situation ends, so does the friendship. Of course, this is not the case with all, but some. It usually hurts too. Good luck Michael, in all you do. We're always here for you. This "situation" never ends.

Sorry to hear that. I know what you mean. When you spend so much time with people you get along with it's hard when you suddenly no longer have that time with them.

I used to visit with one of the teachers each morning before school started when I was in high school. I did that for two years (11th and 12th grade). When it was time to graduate and then leave for college it was hard. I was so used to getting to visit with her in the mornings. It was sad. It took time to get over it; After awhile it was ok.

Thanks, Jenny. Your story sounds like it was hard to deal with, too, but I'm glad it got better.

Thanks, Janice. That was a great post. I don't blame you for calling in sick on the last day. I would probably do the same. Your drive home does sound like it came out of a movie, lol.

It is especially devastating, because I know you're exactly right. You exchange contact information and you keep up with it for a while, but it will eventually fade. We're a relatively small company so when one of the members of the "inner circle" leaves, it has a huge impact. This time is especially difficult.

Thanks again!

:wallbang It's been one of those days. I had an 11am eye doctor appointment. I spent nearly two hours waiting my turn for the doctor. Then because I can't drive I have to rely on special transportation. I spent the last hour and 45 minutes on there. They picked up and dropped off other people. Oh well, at least I'm home.
I'm sorry, Jenny, I know how you feel with the transportation. I also can't drive (and I'm 54 and have been told that I may never. And I've NEVER driven since I turned 16 in 1974) I also have to rely on special transportation, and on occasion have been forced to wait up to 4 HOURS for them!!! (that's a rarity, though)

At my job, I was selling two concert tickets to someone and they were a total of $63 dollars. When I ran them through, I accidentally charged them 63 cents.

My boss was cool about it but damn, I hate making mistakes like that. He is going to try to track the customer down. Otherwise I told him I would pay for the difference. I dont have that kind of cash to throw around damn

I don't know how much you guys know about the Sherry Arnold case... But what I can tell you is it's national news now, and also a federal case because the FBI got involved with it middle of last week.

Sherry Arnold was a high school math teacher in Sidney, MT, which is about 4 hours from where I live. She went on her morning jog the morning of Saturday, January 7th, and never returned home. Long story short - on Friday, it was announced they'd found her dead. I don't know anything else yet.

The town I was working in for the past 2 months - from October to December - is ONE HOUR away from Sidney and is in the same oil-rich region. So I've been super freaking out because this happened 3 weeks after my assignment there ended. They have a suspect in custody there, and another suspect being held in Rapid City, SD (probably a good 5 hours from me - in southern SD, closer to Wyoming).

The oil-boom region has seen a HUUUUUUUUUUGE spike in criminal activity in just the last year, because the population has doubled and then tripled and there aren't enough police officers moving there to keep things in check. Just scary. :(

I was in NYC in September, and I felt FAR safer in Manhattan than I did up there. Eek!

^ Sorry to hear about that. Sounds frustrating for you both. Maybe some cooling off time would help. Just as a suggestion, there are excellent computer classes for any kind of software or one can read manuals or even go to online chat boards for advice on how to do pretty much anything computer related. Perhaps this is what your friend should do. Something tells me she has acted like this before, b/c she sounds like my sister. i have to have boundaries with my sister, and if my sister acted that way with me, I'd tell her to buy her own computer and that she's not using mine again if i'm home. But I'm like you, I hate confrontations too. I learned long ago, not to spend much time with her b/c it's too hard on me, emotionally. Sometimes we have to put our foot down, so to speak. Kudos to you for doing that and to her for apologizing. :)

I just got done vacuuming, ugh.

A friend that I've know for 31 years acted rude toward me. I let her come over to use my computer and printer. She expected me to sit by her and help her step by step (even though I couldn't see what was on the computer since I had to turn the large print program off for her.) She got frustrated with the application and was swearing and screaming. After awhile I finally got up and went into another room. She continued to bother me.

At one point she tossed her cell phone toward me. It landed on my bed. She demanded I call my mother at work. She asked me what my mother's zip code was. When I told her she called me a liar. I'm not the type of person to go around lying. Also what would be the point of making up a zip code? After giving me such a hard time I felt I had to ask her to either chill out or leave. After she slammed a door. She then wanted me to show her how to print the application. I told her how.

I hate confrontation, but I finally had to let her know that enough was enough and that she needed to leave. She told me that she "would never talk to me again and htat it's on me." She left a little while after that.

ETA: :wallbang

I got an apology, but things went downhill. I hate disagreements.

Shame on that woman for being abusive. You sound like you are a very nice person with a heart of gold. We need more people like you.

If that is the way she treats you, you are better off without her.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

^ Sounds like your mother is overreacting a bit. Why isn't just taking the cat to a regular vet an option? It might require a few days stay, but I'm sure the nurses there could apply the medication until Cuddles recovers. Unless the medication is going to be an ongoing thing...even so I imagine someone (a friend, or relative or helpful neighbor) might be able to come in and help you with the process.

Cuddles had a second 'accident' on the floor in less than 24 hours. I know that's not good. It's way too expensive to try and find a pet hospital on the weekend. I'm going to try and find one Monday. If I had tons of money I wouldn't mind. I'm pretty worried about her. I was downstairs a little while ago. I gave her some attention .I was thinking about her and I started to cry. I'm hoping for the best, but I realize I have to prepare myself for the worst. I haver only had her four years. I got her 3/7/2008. My cat Chava passed away on 3/17/2008. I'm going to call the pet clinic tomorrow and ask them to give her an appointment. If they are booked up, I'm going to ask them to please fit her in. She seemed lethargic this afternoon. She wasn't interested in water or food. She was laying next to my other cat Romeo. She didn't perk up until I called my mother on the phone. She jumped up into the window seat. That was good.

Good luck, Jenny. Hopefully it will just be a matter of simple medication; if Cuddles has to stay for a couple days that shouldn't be too terrible in terms of cost. Keep us posted, whatever happens.

My mother got po'ed because the water container that is for the cats got spilled. I picked it up to refill it and wash it out. For some reason when I picked it up the two pieces came apart. Water went everywhere. My mother screamed to get towels and clean it up. You would think it was the end of the world or something. It got cleaned up.
Jenny, as I told you on the phone, your mother needs to be reminded that you're an adult now, not her child that she can scream at, and even that sucks. What does she want, she got rid of you, she's getting married, what more does she want? You should ask her that. God she pisses me off.

I received a spiral bound notebook. My sister picked it out at the 99 Cent store, lol. Yesterday evening my mother gave it to me in a bag, but didn't tell me what it was. All she said was that my sister had picked it out for me. My mother left to go home. I took it out of the bag and couldn't tell at all what was on the front of the notebook. :( I could tell there were some colors. After looking at it for a few minutes under a special magnifer (CCTV) I was able to tell [with difficulty] that Mickey Mouse was on it. There's still one area I can't make out. The color contrast is very poor. I think I might try to scan it and see if I can see it any better. It's a shame because I'm sure I would enjoy it better if I could see it. At least it only cost 99 cents.

My next eye doctor appointment is on the 17th. I'm hoping that there hasn't been a decrease in my vision. There have been a few things recently that I have had trouble seeing.

Another restaurant incident yesterday, My girlfriend and I went shopping and decided to grab a quick-bite at Hardees and we had coupons we needed to use. We got there about 6:45 and were the only ones in line. I ordered 2 chicken wrap combo meals and told the cashier no cheddar cheese on either. I paid and we were told to take our seats and place the number at the edge of the table and they would bring it out. We waited about 15 minutes and sure enough, all 4 were loaded with cheese. I took them back to the counter and told the manager that I told the cashier no cheese. I showed her the receipt and the order was taken as specified so it wasn't the cashier's fault. The manager said she would have 4 more prepared fresh so we waited another 15 minutes or so and she brought them out. They were right this time but the chicken was barely warm. By this time, I was really furious but I remained calm and called the manager to the table. I told her that there was no way that these were prepared fresh because the previous ones were hot and the cheese was melting. She admitted that they just waited a few minutes and used chicken that had been under heat lamps for nearly an hour. I let her know that wasn't the least bit pleased with the lousy service and was seriously considering contacting the district manager later today and that's when the cook came out and both he and the manager started apologizing profusely. My intelligence was further insulted when they asked if we wanted them to fix a third order and I said no thanks and that I wouldn't be back. I was then asked if a refund would be satisfactory so I agreed to it. The cost of the meal was $6.38 and the manager was very nice about the whole thing and I did retain my composure but they could tell I wasn't pleased. I'm also the kind of person that believes in forgive and forget but I'll probably avoid that location from now on.

He tried to make a nice gesture into something "strange, odd and weird...." ohno: I don't know if it's just his thinking or if my sister-in-law and her way of looking at things played into it. I wish in this instance my brother had kept his thoughts to himself.

Did you ask him why? With what your brother went through with his fight with cancer and losing his leg. You should be more patient with him don't take things that he say so personally. A guy I have known for ~15 years was the drunk driver in a fatal car accident on Friday night (7/6). He died, and the family of 3 that was in the other vehicle that he hit - they all died. 4 people total involved in the crash, and none survived. He was 28, the couple in the other vehicle were in their mid-30s and they had a 18mo child with them. The wife was 3 months pregnant with their 2nd child.

I found all this out when I woke up last night to get ready for work, and I just felt so sick to my stomach all day. How could he do something so ****ing stupid and irresponsible? (stories I'm seeing online don't have any info about how drunk he was at the time of the crash, but I'm drawing my own conclusion that he was REALLY ****ING DRUNK because he was going eastbound on a westbound lane on a ****ing interstate - aka DRIVING IN THE WRONG ****ING DIRECTION - and the investigating officers at the scene said he smelled very strongly of alcohol and they could smell it in his truck also)

I never was super close to him - but we ran together for a long time when we were in school together and we graduated only a year apart. Plus my childhood best friend dated him for a long time.

Just... So ****ing stupid. :(

Sonny and Jenny, I totally agree! Friends and relatives of the family who died in Friday night's crash are understandably angry about it. I'm a fiend of the drunk driver, AND also angry about it. I'm STILL trying to get past the car crash last fall that killed a coworker. I, too, knew the driver involved in THAT crash (he survived, and it was just an one-car crash -- he crashed into a tree). I'd known him ever since he was born, so he's known me all his life and I've known him since I was 3 years old (most of my life!). There were 5 people all together in that car in that crash -- the driver, a front-seat passenger and the rest were in the backseat. Only the ones up front survived - my coworker and the two others in the back with him all died. He (the driver), too, had been drunk at the time of the crash.

It breaks my heart so much. I don't know how much more I can handle. The friend who died in Friday night's crash had a 4yo child. :(

Just... WHY? Why? ****, stop this planet and let me disembark. :(

Allison, just catching up on this. There are no words. It's beyond heartbreaking. The families of your friend and the family, their lives are forever changed. That was a family of four, so five lives were lost. I just don't understand why people can't get a ride, call a cab. Do you know where he had been before he climbed into the deathmobile?

This happened here in North Dakota... The town it happened in is just about 1.5 hours from me. The family he hit, they were actually on their way to my city to visit family there for the weekend. In my city (and some of the other bigger cities), we do have a call-a-cab service for when people have been drinking and need a ride home. Unfortunately they don't have a service like that in the town he was living in at the time of his death. It also just came out that he had a history of offenses like this - was busted for underage drinking (most likely after we both graduated from HS - him in 2002 and me in 2003, plus I lost touch with him for a while after HS) and he was arrested for a DUI last year in Minnesota. THAT one I hadn't known about. So - it is clear to me he had a serious problem with alcohol and that he never got help for it either. :( I have no good answers for you on that one!

What he was doing beforehand -- that's a good question. The accident occurred at about 7:15pm on Friday, so I'm guessing it didn't take him very long after work to get drunk. He had a young son who lives with his mom (that is - the baby mama), but I'm not sure where they lived... I am guessing he was probably driving out to see his son. Why drunk, I don't know. :(

Yes'm, that's the one. :( Wyatt is the guy I went to school with. He was a nice, typical guy... Enjoyed joking around with the guys but was always pleasant to the ladies. So it took me by surprise when I heard about the underage drinking and the DUI in MN last year. Then last Friday's accident... HOLY CRAP. "Are you even for real? He did WHAT? WTF?" I seriously felt ill for about 1 1/2 days. I've felt ill before... but damn, that hit really close to home. :barf: I'd love to yell at him - "WTF were you thinking?!" but it's a little too late for that. :(

And as for the family - ugh, I know. A whole family, gone. Just like that. That's not a typical scenario in a drunk-driving accident. So sickeningly/heartbreakingly sad. :(

So, remember a few weeks ago when I posted about my friend who was the drunk driver in that car crash and he had died, along with that family and how I had assessed at that time of my original posting that he was really drunk... Well, my assessment was unfortunately correct. :( I found out that his BAC was .25 - North Dakota has a .08 limit. .08 is when you would start noticing impairment - not being able to walk a straight line, etc. Once you hit .25, that is essentially the point when you have extreme disorientation/pass out/vomit/soil yourself, etc.

So ****ing dumb. I'm kinda glad he saved me the trouble of giving him a V8 forehead smack and me telling him "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!"

I found out later she bought something that won't work. I would have tried to talk her out of wasting her money if she had been honest. She has a habit of lying which is sad, but nothing new when it comes to her.
That was very inconsiderate of your sister because she knows you're not an early riser. She was positive that she would be waking you up. Anyone who knows you well, knows that. If you ever hear from me in the morning, you know there's an emergency.

I'm sorry that you are not close to your sister. I have 3 sisters that I am close to. And it never brothers them to help me out. I'm the youngest and they don't mind that I'm spoiled. It is a loss to them both, but it's not Jenny's fault. Her sister knows that Jenny suffers from insomnia and doesn't get to sleep until 5 to 8 am, yet she still called her at 9:15 am over nonsense. Her sister is spoiled rotten, and there's nothing cute about it. Jenny helps her sister out all the time, and even did on the day she mentioned here. Jenny's sister has been extremely nasty and cruel to her in the past, for no reason; still, Jenny does whatever she can for her. Younger sister or not, I wouldn't keep helping an ungrateful spoiled brat.

^^^ Thanks so much for your concern, my dear friends. Here's what happened in a nutshell. Two months ago, my husband Lou sprained his back bad when he was helping an obese neighbor who had fallen, to get up off the floor. The poor guy was in so much pain. He saw his doctor who arranged for a physical therapist to come to our home three days a week. When I told Brad that she was a gorgeous tall Brazilian woman, he said that it was great that Lou has Sofia Vergara for a PT, lol.

I was afraid that he'd become a chronic pain patient, like I am; yet every week, there was vast improvement. Which brings us to two weeks ago. Despite our cat's water dish being in the same corner in our kitchen, Lou kicked it by accident, water went everywhere, and he wiped out bad. My husband is a big man; 6'1', 230 lbs. He falls hard. He hurt his hip. Later on that day, he fell outside, but didn't know why. He came in with scraped knees and shins. Out comes the Neosporin and band-aids. The following day, he fell at home, hitting his head on a wall corner. He got a huge egg out of that one. Later on that evening, he was walking into a room, and I saw him fall. It was so strange. It looked as if someone had tripped him. He got a twisted ankle out of that one. I wanted him to go to the hospital, but he said he would wait it out. He can be stubborn when it comes to that.

His PT brought in another PT to assess the situation. He came and put Lou through a rigorous test. He determined that Lou's balance was thrown off by his kitchen fall which led to his subsequent falls. The way it was described to us is that his bad leg wasn't catching up to his good leg and was interfering with his balance, sending the poor guy flying. Something about brain signals, overcompensating and other stuff I don't understand. Basically, one of his legs was forcing him to go too fast and causing him to fall. Think of the Roadrunner running off a cliff and standing in mid-air with a wtf look on his face, lol. Lou used a walker with wheels for a few days, and now a cane. When he doesn't use a cane, I'll see him grab a wall or counter or something to prevent that rapid walk that leads to a tumble.

With Lou being sidelined, I've had to step up to the plate and do a lot of his household duties. So, it's been hard on the both of us. He's doing much better. Sorry this was so long, and thank you to those who read it. :)

This is crazy. Lou decided to run a few errands today. That's what he was doing when I wrote that last post. He came in shortly after with a bloodied knee. He took a another fall. I fixed it up. He then told me that he's still supposed to be using the walker. I didn't know this. His physical therapist comes early in the morning while I'm still sleeping. I don't think I should interfere with their therapy sessions, but now I think I should be there to know exactly what's going on.

The problem is that Lou doesn't like using the walker. He's gets impatient. It's only a temporary measure until he regains the strength in his leg. I just want life to get back to normal.

Trying to find a decent job here. That's my complaint. I was a truck driver for 12 years, had a series of legal issues with my license to where I'm not allowed to drive a commercial vehicle until I get this settled. So I lost my good paying job because of all this. I still owe the state of PA $835 which I'm not able to afford right now, and who knows what the heck is going on with my license. For all I know, it's suspended. If I still had my truck driving job, I'd have it paid off by now. So for the time being, I've been trying to find a stable job local. I'm working for a temp agency and I haven't worked at all this week. I was working at the School Board building for 7 months as a custodian through the temp agency. It really wasn't all that bad, the pay was decent, it was 40 hrs, and everybody there was really, really nice. Well, everybody except MY boss. But for some reason, when it came time to hire somebody permanently, they didn't hire me, so that job ended. That's OK, I detested my bitch boss anyway. I kept my mouth shut and did my work, but inside, I couldn't stand her.

That's another thing, putting up with nasty bosses. I am getting too old to be working for condecending bitches and being talked down to. I know they're bosses but where do they get off talking to their employees that way??? I was a manager at one time and I never talked to my employees the way some of these bosses have talked to me.

I have applied to just about everywhere retail. To me, it's a bit degrading applying to minimum wage jobs at my age, and even more degrading that I can't even get hired by one of them. By now, I should be established financially(well, I was up until 3 years ago, but that's a whole other story). I check on the applications that I put in, of course, nobody's hiring now. But you know who is always hiring??? The trucking industry!!!!!! An industry that I can't even get back into now!!!

I'm dreading my dental appointment this Saturday. It was previously post-poned. I just hate getting fillings. It's not going to be easy as the teeth that need fillings are in the back and unfortunately the cavities are deep. :( I have three, but will have two do on Saturday. The other will be done at another time. That's more than I can handle at once, and the cost, ugh. Oh well. I just want it over with.

I understand what you mean. I've been having dental problems myself lately. Tomorrow, I'm getting a root canal retreatment on one tooth that will take up all of my annual dental insurance and then some. Then on Wednesday I'm getting a cavity filled on another tooth. I'm also going to need a crown on the tooth that's being retreated. The cost of all of this is just so overwhelming to me.

Root canals are awful, both physically, and as you stated, financially. I got one five years ago, and it was hell, and cost me about $1,000. I hope it went well, Mike.

Jenny, I'm glad your dental ordeal is more than half over. I tell Lou sometimes that I thought by my age, I'd be done with cavities and pimples, but I still get them both occasionally.

My complaint, I guess is that I'm in hell. Lou's had one fall after another, and he literally cannot walk; hasn't taken a step in a week. A nurse came to evaluate the situation yesterday. Next week, things will start happening very fast. I have a feeling that he'll have to go to an in-house rehabilitation facility. My father went to one after his stroke. Lou has no strength in his legs. He starts to get up and just slides through my arms.

The thought of him being away from me just makes me crazy. We're like Paul and Linda McCartney, who slept away from each other about twice in 29 years. I just can't see any other way though. One foot is swollen from a fall, and his knee is banged up and there's his hip....and this is all on one side. His arms are bruised something awful. I see him on all fours, and it just kills me. I try to help, but I can't help him because I've got the arm strength of a kitten.

Never really how much you love someone until you're bathing them at the bedside. So helpless. I want my big strong husband back. To think this all started because he lifted an obese neighbor who had fallen. She doesn't even know that she's the reason for this. I think she must. She never asked him what happened. My workload around the house is more because he did so much. Grocery shopping, all outside errands really taking out the trash, just so much.

I'll stop this pity party. It's just so darn hard. I'm afraid. I know sometimes that older people take a bad turn and don't come back. If you've read this, please say a prayer for my husband. Thanks.

I'll say a prayer for Lou, Janice. You're right, it is TERRIBLE to see a loved one be incapacitated, and to feel helpless in your attempts to get them back to normal.

With luck and no doubt a lot of effort, maybe the therapists can get some or most of his strength back. I sure hope so. Hang in there. I'm sure you're doing everything you can for him, and I'm sure he knows it, too.

Thanks.

Yeah, I had to pay $500 for the original root canal, and this retreatment was almost $1,300. I will need to get a crown on this tooth sometime next year, but I'm trying not to worry about that right now.

I'm very sorry to hear about everything that has been going on with Lou. If he does have to go to a rehabilitation facility, I'm sure it will go well. They really know what they're doing at those places, so I'm sure he will be able to bounce back. You will both be in my prayers.

Now I am back to pounding the pavement. Hopefully I can find something else fast.

That's rough, Mickey. I hope you can find something else very soon.

How did the appointment turn out, Jenny? Hope it wasn't overly painful, or costly.

The electricity went off last night where I work and instead of letting us go on home, they had us wait in the break room for an hour and a half & then sent us home. There's only a few emergency back-up lights so we were mainly sitting in the dark. I doubt we'll get paid for that 90 minutes either.

That sucks. The electricity went out at my work in early July. From 8:30-2pm it was down, and we were never told that we could go home, so everyone pretty much sat there annoyed. We did get paid for it, though.

It's not always that easy. People have health issues or are seeing their loved ones go through terrible pain. Others have job losses and don't know where their next meal or rent is coming from. Try to smile through that. Only someone who is young and healthy and who lives with their parents or has someone else paying their rent would say something so naive and cold.

i was in the grocery store yesterday, I bought a box of doughnuts from the bakery and when the cashier asked me how many doughnuts I had, I held up 4 fingers and said "SIX ...I have no idea why I am holding 4 fingers UP."

...AND i REALLY DIDN'T - she laughed at me though.

I was downstairs in my kitchen about 15 minutes ago. i heard something on my patio. It sounded like someone was dragging something across it. I don't know what. It could be the barbecue pit, or whatever. I was too scared to go outside and find out. It's a real disadvantage that I can't see well. With good vision it would have been easy to look out the window and see. Though it is dark as it's night time.

What's wrong with your vision?

For animals loves who don't like sad animal stories, please don't read beliow.

I feel bad for one of the older neighbors that lives here in the complex. She's in her 70's. Her dog has been very ill and she was told that it's time to let her dog, Prince, go. She has been giving him medicine and taking him to the vet. She called me last night. She's really sad about it. Her dog is old (about 12 years old). I won't go into many details as sad animal stories are hard to read. Today is the last day until 3pm.... I looked through a stack of cards I have that haven't been used yet. I found a sympathy card. I just wrote in it and sealed it.

I know what your neighbor is going through. I lost my Penny when she was only 12. Actually 12 is altogether not "that" old. I thought I would have her until at least 15 or 16, but she got sick, too, and there was nothing the vet could do. We animal lovers know how heart wrenching the death of a pet is, especially when you have to put one to sleep. Weird, but we just had another dog pass away this past June, but he just went quietly, I think he passed away in his sleep. I didn't react as sadly as I did when Penny went, I guess because Flash died naturally. It is still sad altogether though.

My dad contiunes to recover from his heart attack but its been a slow process that has been difficult on everyone, especially my dad. On Friday he collapsed in the grocery store and had to be rushed to the ER. We were all afraid that it was another heart attack but thankfully it was just exhaustion. However, my dad collapsing into my arms was difficult to deal with. :(

My talking watch [low vision] stopped talking. :( It probably takes some kind of special battery. I'm going to have to either find out what type of battery it takes and hope that's all it will need or I'll have to replace it. I wish things lasted longer.

That type of device is probably hard to get parts for, or replace, too. Sorry, Jenny; I hope your search for a fix is quick and fruitful.

I guess it's a sign you're getting old when people from your childhood die. I found out today that my next door neighbor from Jacksonville NC had died. He actually had died in June. I was 9 years old when we moved in next to his family. It's hard to believe he was 35 then. I'm 12 years older than that now. My prayers go to his family. They were one of the few good things about that place that I enjoyed. :(

For your information I have lived on my own for 6 years and I pay my own way. And no my health is not perfect frankly it's terrible! But I still know how to wake up with a smile on my face and appreciate everyday and what I have and look how dare you say that I'm young, naive, perfect health, living with my parents, and not paying my own way when you obviously know nothing about me or my life

Yep, it's a definite sign of aging when you know most of the folks who pass on; I'm going through that too. In fact, (and I hope this doesn't sound too morbid) I actually subscribe to an email service from the local funeral home so that I know when people pass on, because I had several incidents where people I knew had died but I didn't know it and I didn't make it to their wakes/funerals.

Hey, we still have our great memories and hopefully a lot of good years ahead. :)

I don't think it's morbid. I get curious too. I just google some names sometimes and come across these things. I came across my neighbor's obituary this morning. He had stomach cancer. I haven't seen him in 18 years. I know I spent many days playing in his yard when I was a kid. I know I mentioned this before but the day Elvis died, I ran over to tell my parents who was over at his house.

Yea you are right. Nobody can ever take our memories away. :)
