The city of Cleveland has had a colorful history. The Cuyahoga River, which runs through the city, famously caught fire in 1969 thanks to rampant pollution, and it wasn't the first time. In 1978 it became the first U.S. city to default on its debts since the Great Depression. Cleveland sports fans have had to endure more anguish than those in any other city. The city has been dubbed with a less than endearing nickname: the Mistake by the Lake.
This year Cleveland takes the top spot in our third annual ranking of America's Most Miserable Cities. Cleveland secured the position thanks to its high unemployment, high taxes, lousy weather, corruption by public officials and crummy sports teams (Cavaliers of the NBA excepted).

Youngstown near where I live is on the list too. They did admit this was all based off of statistics and no one even visited these cities.

After a blistering article from Forbes Magazine, naming Cleveland the "most miserable" city, Fox News reporter, John Stossel had his own choice words for the City.
"According to Forbes, Cleveland is America's most miserable city; the 'mistake by the lake' as its been called. People call it that because Cleveland's been going downhill for decades," Stossel said on Fox News.
As part of a special on the Fox News Business Channel, Stossel weighs-in on the much-anticipated Medical Mart and even trashes some local politicians.
"One politician bragged that with his help, a new business could start in 18 months. Well, we profile a company that goes into Houston in just one day. That's why Houston grows and Cleveland speaks," Stossell said. On Medical Mart, he says, "There's 40% more convention space already in America than there's the need for. The idea that people will go to Cleveland because you're gonna build a Medical Mart that will be Disney World for doctors...I don't think so."
Stossel says he has comedian, and local Cleveland native, Drew Carey to thank for coming up with the special.
"Well, frankly, I don't know if we would have done the program without Drew."

I really want a One-Way Ticket out of The Butt Of America. I even call Cleveland "The Misery Capital of the Nation".
However...Drew Carey and Reason made a few vids on how to save 'The Mistake on the Lake'....
