In an extensive article about how the NBC owned-and-operated stations are rejiggering their daytime schedules to improve their ratings, TVNewscheck is reporting that some shows will be dumped and some added.

According to the report: "At the end of this season, the NBC O&Os are unloading NBCU game show 'Deal or No Deal' (although that has not been confirmed) and Warner Bros.' low-rated talk show 'Bonnie Hunt.' "

The article also says, "In addition to 'Ellen' and "Nate [Berkus,]" NBC Local Media a few months ago picked up NBCU's off-cable hour 'Real Housewives.' It will likely add a topical newsmagazine that the NBC O&Os are developing in conjunction with the team behind NBCU's 'Access Hollywood.' "

Now if only Deal or No Deal would disappear from GSN, they've gone downhill since it was added. :(

...when a big-money game show is "overexposed". The only difference is that the syndicated "daytime" edition of "WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?", featuring Meredith Viera, is doing quite well, and will continue for some time.
ABC/Disney learned not to be too greedy in its quest to keep it on the air.

NBC, on the other hand, is a "basket case". They wound up scheduling more editions of "DEAL OR NO DEAL" in prime-time, between 2006 and 2008, then they had to, because almost NOTHING ELSE was getting the ratings it was getting. They discovered, too late, that the show had been seen too many times in prime-time, deciding to produce a daily syndicated version instead. BUT, instead of being wise in making the decision, they again tried to "grab it all" by scheduling a second half-hour edition, right after the first one. That works for "FAMILY FEUD", but not for "DEAL". And MyNetwork TV also schedules a weekly "two-fer" hour of "DEAL" in prime-time for some of their Fox affiliates, hastening the "fatigue factor" even more.

I can see the cover of Howie Mandel's next book now- "No Deal! How 'Deal Or No Deal' Almost Put Me Away For Life" (as told to Dr. Ignatz Rothstein).

It's official - the syndie DoND will not be renewed for the 2010 - 11 season. So stick a fork in it - it's done. ;)
