Decided to watch an old Quincy episode on Retro Television. About ten minutes into the episode, just as Quincy was confronting his fiancee, the episode...paused.

As if someone were watching a DVD and hit "pause" on the remote so they could do something else.

Nearly a half-hour later, it's still "paused."

Figures! I find something I actually want to watch and this happens.

Next time, if you didn't try this, is change the channel, its a problem with digital transmissions, sometimes they block and tile as well depending on your cable/satellite source.....there is also something called "Sun Outages" when 4 times a year, the sun blocks certain satellite transmissions knocking out whatever channels are located on the satellite the sun is literally going over......problem was not Retro TV's problem but your provider, or the sun! It can also happen if you are watching it as a over-the air signal, because the signal is still digital and not analog.

I was watching it on cable. As of an hour later, it was still frozen.

Now, the channel is just a black screen.

It was the cable company signal, when a digital picture goes off the air, it freezes on the last image, once you turn the channel and go back it unlocks it and then shows black until the signal returns.

All this stuff is confusing to a person like me who grew up in the "Retro" period. In our day, the only adjustments we made to what we were watching was to move the rabbit-ears or bang on the TV set! :lol: ;)

As Did I, I am 47, love cable television but hate digital signals, analog signals make a much better picture....also hate all plasma or LCD TV's.....TV's should be wooden stereo consoles, there is no better sound than wood, not plastic or needing to add your own speaker system because the crappy plastic speakers are vibrating....old TV's are CRT with a real glass screen, not some plastic garbage that blurrs the picture and never mind about changing the aspect radio to 16:9 (movie style size).....all I watch is old shows on DVD, so I don't need a giant movie style TV hanging on the wall no less, so I can never get to it easily......now I'm not some old guy, I make DVD's, have a massive TV library.....but everything is now is disposable, try and find a TV repair shop.....I have three TV's...all CRT's (sharper picture) and my Zenith looks as good as it did when I bought it 30 years ago with its' channel dial!

Was the picture still frozen or did it go to black?.....if it went to black, its your cable company, if it is was frozen it is the satellite transmission being sent to the cable company. Translation The videocypher was not receiving a digital picture....again various reasons, this should be a one time occurance, if it happens regularly, the channel your watching doesn't have enough power or is too far away from your cable companies headend, where all the channels are controlled. Hope that helps to explain it somewhat.....BTW.....I have worked in TV for 30 years.
