HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville Police, Madison County Sheriff's department and HEMSI are on the scene of a shooting at University of Alabama Huntsville's campus.

Emergency workers responded to the call at the Shelby Center along Sparkman Drive around 4:00.

The campus is currently on lock down.

UA-Huntsville spokesman Ray Gardner confirmed three people were shot and killed. One person is injured.

He also said a female suspect is in custody.

These shootings are almost commonplace these days. I remember the McDonald's shooting in 1984. It was huge. I know there were more victims, but I've seen shooting sprees in workplaces that didn't get nearly the coverage it would years ago. It's just sad.

Yes, it's sad. Shootings like that are too common place. I remember how it used to be more of a shock to hear about a shooting at a school.

I don't remember the 1984 McD's shooting as I was so young. I do remember the shooting rampage at Luby's. I think that was back in the early 1990's?

I just saw this on the news. How awful. I hope and pray those injured make speedy, full recoveries. God be with the family and friends of the victims, and may the three that lost their lives :rip:.

There were 6 victims total, 5 faculty members and one staff member. The last I heard, 3 were dead and 2 were in critical condition.

Apparently a Biology professor had a meeting earlier that morning and was denied tenure. She returned later for a Biology department meeting and began shooting. As of last night, she and a male, possibly her husband, were in custody.

The suspect's name had been released, Dr. Amy Bishop. The deceased have been identified as G.K. Podila, Adriel Johnson and Maria Ragland. The 3 wounded are Joseph Leahy, Luis Rogelio Cruz-Vera and Stephanie Monticciolo. Monticciolo and Leahy and in critical condition.

My prayers go out to the victims. This morning I read up more on this story earlier today. It's seems that Amy Bishop didn't have a good reputation with some students on campus and she killed her brother in what declared an accidental shooting back in the 80's. I also saw an article that linked to her ratemyprofessors.com page and it seems that some people felt she didn't have a good ability to teach despite being intelligent. Reading some of the ratings reminded me of a geology teacher I had in college she was smart but she just didn't have a knack for teaching.

I just read on Yahoo news that she was denied tenure and only had a few months left teaching at the school.
