View Full Version : Unsolved Mysteries would make a good Unexplained Death segment
themaninblack 02-07-2010, 01:26 AM The reason I say this is because for the life of me and probably a lot of other people, I cannot figure out why more has not been done to promote the show! Nobody (except for the powers that be at Cosgrove/Meurer Productions and First Look Media) knows. I mean, there are still thousands of people who are die hard fans of the show and we have all been SHAFTED!
A "new" Unsolved Mysteries that airs at hours when most people are asleep, and non-sensical chopped up re-releases of the same stuff they have already put out.
And, granted as the creators of the show, Cosgrove-Meurer has the right to say how their show is seen.
But if they would do things right, then we, the fans, would buy the DVDs and they would have their money and we would all be happy with it!
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 02-07-2010, 06:28 AM I loved the old show and wouldn't even watch it after people here reported what was done to it. :(
Apostapler 02-07-2010, 08:36 AM Couldn't have said it better myself. Cosgrove-Meurer has really screwed the pooch on this one.
It's almost as though UM has become the Rodney Dangerfield of non-fiction TV shows: In other words, it gets no respect! (Except for, of course, by the viewers.)

It's up to Spike to promote the show not Cosgrove-Meurer.

I don;t know there are as many fans out there as we think. I fully believe we are few and far between.

As much as I hate CM for what they have done...I do understand their dilemma.
1. I agree with the notion that creating whole new episodes would be impractical and would defeat the point since the core fans wanted to see the older episodes. New episodes would just bury the older episodes more into obscurity. Not to mention there are other methods that true crime fans can go to to view these stories. Websites not withstanding.
2. There is also no way they could put every season on DVD. The amount of money they would lose would be astronomical. Not to mention how many seasons there are. They could only put out segments like they way they did in the Bizzare Murders and Ghosts box sets.
3. Ultimately, what most fans want is to see the original episodes as they were originally broadcast. I think ANY alteration would draw the ire of hardcore fans. But this has been done already on Lifetime for several years. It's quite possible that Spike wanted the episodes to be altered if they were going to take the episodes.
4. Most of the original ghost, legends, UFO, Miracls, Pyschics and Treasures segments are on the original DVD release. The problem with the bizarre murders is that there are so many of them and they tend to be dated. Also the fact that some segments have appeared on other shows, doesn;t help either. I have to commend them that they were able to put some of the bizarre murders out there.
I think what CM needs to do is allow the original episodes that they did not release on DVD to be shown "elsewhere" by people. Considering these cases are still active, there is a law enforcement aspect that CM should be gracious enough to allow.
I think once the Spike episodes have run their course, Original UM episodes will be put up on some video website. Sesame street has done something similar with putting their old segments on YT. I could see an official UM site on the YT at some point.
Big3sCompanyFan 02-07-2010, 05:35 PM Mastermind, WHAT are you talking about???
Most core fans would LOVE to see new episodes!! Watching the same old shows for the zillionth time SUCKS!!
I can't believe you're actually against new episodes! You're not a true UM fan then.

NBC's doing it with Saturday Night Live. They could easily do it, not necessarily by season, but say, here's a set of all the murders, here's all the lost loves, here's all the ghosts, etc, and put a simple text update on those with updates that haven't already been covered.

Again the murders are massive in number. A bizzare murders DVD set would take up 22 discs.

I am not saying that the Dennis Farina UM is really crappy in of itself.
Its just the way its being aired and the music they use on it.
Other than that its a good show.

The music when they go to a break is really cool but the theme music at the start of the show is nowhere near as good as the original.
I had an mp3 file of the original UM theme music and it's actually OVER 2 minutes long! They never played the entire theme even when the show originally ran but the entire 2 minutes plus is really cool.
I misplaced it somewhere and one day I've got to find it.
