In which episodes (if any) did we get to see the other side of the island? Didn't we? If so, when?

Hmmm...possibly in Music Hath Charm, where they run about the island and see the headhunters arriving from every shore. What we're actually seeing is Tahiti in clips lifted from the 1935 version of Mutiny on the Bounty. There are also the six breathtaking vistas of the island that the castaways watch as they wait for the arrival of George Barclay's boat. Maybe one of those is the elusive other side.

I would love it if we could identify where in Hawaii (or California, as the case may be) those establishing shots on the show came from. We all know the classic ones: Moloa'a Bay is the site of the pilot, Coconut Island is the island from the opening song, etc., but what about all those other scenes? That magnificent ridge that Mary Ann points to in How To Be A Hero, for example - where is that? Where is that gorgeous beach we see during the writers' credits for The Jungle Boy? Where is that breathtaking bay where Gilligan and the women see the sunrise in Music Hath Charm? I wanna go there!

If they'd explored the other side of the island, they might have found a U.S. naval air base!

I don't know what shots you're talking about; as I haven't seen the show in years.

And no, we don't ALL know the classic establishing shots. I don't, for one!

Wasn't there an episode where Gilligan ran away to the far side of the Island when everyone was mad at him?

They did explore the other side of the island in one of the TV Movies. They found an airplane.

The "New Adventures" cartoon series revealed a radio repair shop frequented by the island's animal population. :D

It was either that episode about the faux water shortage or the volcanic gas that the Professor went to the other side of the island alone to check it out.

Maybe both episodes.

I take it the other side of the island was just part of the set and not a real island correct?

A U.S. naval air base ? A five star beach resort ? I've had my thoughts about Gilligan's Island for years, some of them serious and philosophical, some semi -- serious, and some completely crazy . This thread reminded me of one idea that slipped my mind .

Everybody wonders where they got all their clothes, why their clothes never wore out, and how they ever replaced their clothes . I imagined "the other side of the island" had a store named "Castaway Clothes" . It sold everything a castaway might want in clothes, and it received a new shipment of clothes from Hawaii twice a month .

Hey, I think you just explained how Mary Ann and Ginger were able to keep up with the latest fashions. :p Actually Gilligan's hair grew progressively longer and the Skipper figured out to let his sideburns grow longer. The only one to stay true fashion wise the Professor.

Right, Sneakers ! I wondered what people were going to say about my idea ! It's cool to have someplace where we can ask questions and exchange ideas about our favorite shows !
