View Full Version : Katie Couric May Face A Serious Pay Cut at CBS...Anomosity Grows Within Newsroom
Brian Damage 02-05-2010, 12:51 AM CBS News has been making cuts to save the bottom line and even Katie Couric make be forced to take a salary reduction, reports the Drudge Report and the New York Post
Insiders are reportedly ticked off that Couric is making $300,000 a week. One disgruntled producer was quoted by Drudge as saying, "She makes enough to pay 200 news reporters $75,000 a year! It's complete insanity."
CBS News and Sports president Sean McManus denied the report, however, telling TVNewser, "There hasn't been one single discussion about altering Katie's role or adjusting her contract ... Not one single discussion with anyone involved in the decision-making process."
Reportedly, Couric currently makes $14 million a year for her anchor duties on the CBS Evening News and contributing to "60 Minutes."

Schmoopie 02-06-2010, 06:12 AM With so many people out of work, and the insane amount of money that she makes, I just can't feel sorry for her!

I couldn't have put it better myself!! :clap
USATVFAN 02-06-2010, 03:46 PM I love watching Katie Couric, While I do love watching Meredith on the Today Show, I do miss seeing Katie in the morning.
I heard that Katie had Regretted leaving The Today Show.
BillCullen1 02-07-2010, 10:12 PM Rumor has it that Katie was going to be sacked by CBS after the 2008 presidential election. The now famous interview with Sarah Palin is what reportedly saved her bacon. I agree that it's hard to feel bad for someone making the reported salary she does.
I hear the CBS pres Les Moonves is looking to reduce salaries across the board, so Katie will not be the only one affected if that's true. The only one whose salary is safe is Julie Chen, aka Mrs. Les Moonves, but she probably gets nowhere near Katie's salary.

Katie probably is the highest-paid employee at CBS news, but how much do the 60 Minutes folks (Mike Wallace, Andy Rooney, etc.) make?
TV Knowledge Fan 02-13-2010, 05:05 AM ..."Rat Sludge" and the NEW YORK POST with a grain of salt. After all, the POST's parent company, News Corp., which owns Fox News Channel, isn't making the profits they want you to believe they're earning, just because their cable news network was recently #1 among cable viewers. Rupert Murdoch is also losing money as well- how many people can he and Roger Ailes (who's running the Fox News operation) toss aside, for "budgetary" reasons, so they can keep Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity on every weeknight because of their "bloated" contracts? Plenty...those who don't have "star status" at Fox [or the local operations at, say, WNYW and WWOR in New York] have disappeared over the past year, only to turn up on other stations or cable networks. Apparently, Murdoch's approach to getting rid of "competition", like Katie Couric, is by rumor and innuendo [and those familiar with Murdoch's approach to journalism KNOW this]. As for Matt Drudge.....one day, his brand of "investigative reporting" will turn around and bite him in the ass- as it did publisher Robert Harrison of "Confidential" magazine in the late '50s.

robyrob 02-13-2010, 10:47 AM i always imagine Andy Rooney making the same money he did back in the 40's but he doesn't complain because his contract gets him a bag of fresh roasted peanuts every week.
