View Full Version : Happy Birthday Roger Staubach Scoobiedoo30 02-04-2010, 06:35 PM Happy 68th Birthday Roger Marvo301 02-04-2010, 07:44 PM Happy birthday to Roger "the dodger" Staubach, one of the all time great Cowboys. Schmoopie 02-06-2010, 06:28 AM He was an AWESOME player and one of my all-time favorite Dallas Cowboys. I used to drive by his house in Dallas quite a bit. Really cool! I even met him in 1987 in college. He gave a speech at my school. He was really nice from what I remember. I still have his autograph. My other favorite Cowboys players are Danny White, Troy Aikman, Tony Dorsett, Charlie Waters, etc. I met a lot of those guys (except for Troy Aikman) back in the early 80's. My parents took me to Thousand Oaks to watch them practice and we got a bunch of pictures. I even met Tom Landry! Sorry I got a bit off topic! Tweety 02-08-2010, 11:00 PM Wow, 68... doesn't seem possible, because I grew up watching him play lol... Staubach was always older than we (as fans) thought he was during his career. Because of his attending the Naval Academy and then serving in the Navy for about 5 years or so, he was about 27 during his rookie season in the NFL. He became the Cowboys regular starter in his third season, and that year, the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl, beating the Dolphins. Although Roger was only in his 3rd season, he was 30 years old. Sports-wise, you realize how long you've been around when the guys you grew up watching and idolizing are inducted into their sports' hall of fame. This usually happens when they are in their 40s... But when they get into their 60s, wow...that's always strange! Mr. Television 02-09-2010, 01:06 AM Roger was one of the major reasons that I became a Cowboys fan. He was my hero growing up. He was so cool and no matter how far behind the Cowboys got, you just knew you were never out of the game. He was Roger the Dodger and Captain America and God Bless Him on his 68th birthday. :birthday: |
