She had the voice of an angel...and is still missed by millions today. :rip:

I have to admit I am not the biggest Carpenters fan, but I am a sucker for both "We've Only Just Begun", and "Superstar".

May Karen rest in peace.

Karen is/was one of the best female singers

Anyone know how many Grammys The Carpenters won?

Karen had a beautiful singing voice and she and her brother Richard made some very beautiful music as a team. She left us far to soon and is sorely missed by music fans. Rest in peace Karen. :(

I really like The Carpenters, they were way before my time but I prefer that kind of music. :rip: Karen

Same here - but my mom was a big Carpenters fan so I grew up listening to them. There will never be another Karen...or another team like Karen and Richard!

Ashlee, did you ever get those songs I emailed you?

I always choke up a bit when I hear a Carpenters song. For one, they are often tinged with a melancholy theme. For another, they remind me of a time when I was young and the world seemed so much brighter, decent and full of hope (whether or not it really was).

Thirdly, it's hard not to consider the tragedy of this beautiful (on many levels) woman when you hear that strikingly crystalline voice.

Regardless, I do listen to and enjoy their timeless classics. She and her brother made the world a better place with their music, and she is indeed, deeply missed.

Yeah, I did. I've actually since just downloaded a lot of them. I have a whole Carpenters/Karen Carptender playlist on my ipod. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

What a tragedy, a truly unique voice. Nobody could sing quite like her.

Exactly. I'll take Karen any day over Beyonce, Fergie, Taylor Swift, etc.

And not only did she have that great singing voice, she was also a talented drummer.

Love her, love her voice. I spent many a night in high school letting Karen sing me to sleep after a bad day, and I still do.

I have to say, if you're only familiar with their singles, do yourself a favor and listen to some of their album tracks. Very pretty music, but my favorite is the haunting Crescent Noon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF8Ky6-EIFk).

Crescent Noon is one of the greatest, underrated Carpenters songs (off the 1970 album Close To You). It gives me shivers no matter how many times I've heard it.

Wow, I remember hearing this news right after it happened. I think I heard it on the radio or read it in the paper. Doesn't seem like it was 27 years ago. Definitely an impossible voice to replace!

She had a beautiful voice. I'll take her over the other ladies (beyonce, Fergie etc) too.
