When I asked actress Julia Roberts and director Garry Marshall yesterday (at the “Valentine’s Day” junket) whether we might one day see the return of the ‘Pretty Woman’ Vivian, I almost expected to get the response “There’s already been a Pretty Woman sequel – it was called Runaway Bride”. Much to my surprise, I didn’t get that excuse – nope, got a whole new one this time ‘round. “Nobody wants to see an old hooker”, laughs Roberts.

“Valentine’s Day” co-star Shirley MacLaine teasingly adds, “Oh, I’m not so sure about that”.

Disney has been trying for years to get a “Pretty Woman” sequel off the ground – seems Roberts, Richard Gere and Marshall are the hold-ups.

“It’s not that I’m anti romantic-comedy, which, for some reason, is always the favoured interpretation”, says Roberts, ‘’I like being funny, I like being romantic ... but it’s challenging trying to find a script which is original or interesting”.

Roberts and co-star Richard Gere have been been presented with several “Pretty Woman 2” scripts over the years, but they were all lousy. The actors have said in the past that everything they’ve read has simply been an imitation of the original 1990 film.

Considering some of the mediocre romantic comedies Miss Roberts has cranked out the lst few years, maybe she should consider reprising the character that made her a star.
There has to be someone out there who can write a decent sequel.

Good point, but sometimes you just can't go back home again...

Disney is gonna make it, weird.

Remakes are terrible. I wouldnt be surprised if they get Paris Hilton or Lohan as the Julia Roberts part.
