Susan Dey played Jo March in the 1978 miniseries adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel, Little Women. Ironically, this Partridge would play sibling to a Brady (Eve Plumb, who played Beth). I had my doubts about Susan Dey in such a tomboyish, complex role as Jo, but I think she was even better than Winona Ryder was in the 1994 theatrical version.
I do have to say that Susan Dey having William Shatner, of all people, playing her love interest, struck me as odd. But somehow they made it work!! I highly recommend this movie - it also stars such well-known actors as Meredith Baxter, Cliff Potts, Greer Garson and Robert Young. Here are some pics!

I enjoyed seeing this a year or so ago when I rented it from Netflix! i just wish they would also release the short lived series that followed this on NBC

How many episodes did it last? On a different note, I am struck by how much Ann Dusenberry (Amy) looks like Kirsten Dunst, who played young Amy in the 1994 silver screen release.

Not sure, Monika--maybe 4 episodes.....I just read about the cast changes which prolly explained why fans quickly rejected the series. Meredith Baxter was committed to Family, but I'm not sure why Susan Dey didn't return, nor William Shatner. Eve came back as lookalike cousin Lissa, but I'm sure that was taking things a bit too far.

^ Yeah, bringing Eve back as a lookalike cousin seems pretty contrived. Thanks for the info.
As far as I know "Little Women" is a classical book and it is what High Schoolers oftentimes put to read for literature classes.
I never read it. I am aware that the story is set sometime in the 1800s or so.
What is the plot? Who are the characters? It seems that they are people of more privileged backgrounds for the particular era.
Is this movie still on Netflix?

I saw it years ago. David and Meredith dated after she played a rich hippie on the show. I t think their parents were friends. The movie was a great adaptation.
