Actor Justin Mentell, a 2001 Waukegan High School graduate who co-starred on the ABC television series “Boston Legal,” died early Monday in a one-car accident southwest of Madison, Wis., according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department. Mentell, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 a.m. after his 2005 Jeep left the roadway on Route 39 near Mineral Point, Wis., went down an embankment and struck two trees.

Mentell competed on the Junior National Speedskating Team during his high school days before majoring in fine arts at Northern Illinois University. He played junior associate Garrett Wells on “Boston Legal” for 16 episodes during the 2005-06 season, working alongside Emmy winners William Shatner and James Spader. His recent film credits include a co-starring role in last summer’s “G-Force” with Nicholas Cage.

William Shatner expressed his sorrow over the loss of his former "Boston Legal" co-star Justin Mentell.

Shatner tweeted Tuesday, "I'm deeply saddened to hear about Justin Mentell. There's no telling how far up the ladder he may have climbed. My sympathies to his family."

Mentell, the 27-year-old actor who played attorney Garrett Wells on "Boston Legal," was reportedly killed in a car accident in Iowa County, Wisconsin on Monday morning. Mentell's Jeep went down a steep embankment and hit two trees off Highway 39, the sheriff's department told the Associated Press. According to the AP, he was not wearing a seat belt.

The actor was on "Boston Legal" from 2005 to 2006 and was also the voice of Terrell in 'G-Force.'
