Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga is under arrest on a DUI charge.

Around 3 a.m. Friday he was booked in the Kenton County Detention Center after Covington police said he was driving under the influence.

Covington police spokesman Spike Jones said Maualuga allegedly hit a parking meter and two parked cars, causing minor damage, with his 2003 Pontiac vehicle.

Maualuga was also charged with careless driving.


Maualuga was forced off the field at the end of the Bengals season because of a broken ankle suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In court Friday morning, Maualuga appeared via video for an arraignment.

News 5's Andrew Setters said Maualuga appeared disoriented as he pleaded not guilty. He will be released on his own recognizance.

The judge set a hearing for Feb. 25. If convicted, Maualuga faces up to 30 days in jail, 120-day license suspension and a $500 fine
