AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Actor Corbin Bernsen is hoping to help the financially struggling All-American Soap Box Derby.

Bernsen is seeking investors to make a movie about the derby, which is held every year in Akron, Ohio.

He needs about $1 million to finance the project, in which some of the proceeds would go to the derby.

Bernsen was in the city Thursday talking to potential investors about his screenplay, "25 Hill."

Plans call to shoot part of the movie during this summer's race, which attracts about 600 racers and their families.

The nonprofit derby has gone two years without a corporate sponsor, and an Ohio bank is suing the organization to repay a $580,000 loan.

In the past, companies such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Home Depot generally contributed about $250,000 a year plus free publicity.

I hope Corbin Bernsen gets this movie made. Anything that can help save a wonderful tradition like the All American Soap Box Derby is a good thing.

Exactly - and if it can bring more jobs and tourism back to Akron, that's all the more reason to root for Mr. Bernsen to get this movie made!!

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Actor-director Corbin Bernsen says he's ready to start shooting a movie aiding the financially troubled All-American Soap Box Derby in Ohio.

Bernsen says commitments he now has for about $500,000 are enough to get the film going.

He plans to shoot most of the movie in the Akron area, home of the annual derby, with filming scheduled to start in April.

The former star of the TV series "L.A. Law," who now appears on the USA Network series "Psych," said Wednesday he's confident he has enough financial backing to make "a really good movie."

The nonprofit derby has gone two years without a corporate sponsor, and its lender sued to repay a $580,000 loan.

You mean all the cheesy horror movies filmed in Akron aren't doing it? The Dead Next Door, Ozone, Skinned Alive, Killer Nerd, The Sandman, Dead & Rotting, Zombie Cop...
