Martial arts movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme is set to take part in a dangerous kickboxing fight with a Thai boxer.

The 49-year-old actor - who is well known for his martial arts movies - will have a bout with a Thai boxer 13 years his junior who has over 300 fights under his belt.

At a news conference in Ukraine, it was announced: "It's the first time in history a guy almost 50 will go for a real fight in Macau, China. It's kind of dangerous, but life is short."

The Belgian actor will fight Somluck Kamsing who won the gold medal as a featherweight boxer at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Van Damme is also filming a reality series to chronicle his training for the bout.

The Bloodsport star has previously admitted he wants to pack as much excitement into his life as he can, while he is still able-bodied.

He said: "Life is short. I have got ten years left and I want them to be precious, not like before, cranking two or three movies a year. I just want to do something I'm proud of."

ha, yeah I do like Van Damme but I really have no interest in this.

It's the same for everyone else.. I don't care for their reality shows.

I like Seagal but I don't watch Lawman and I love KISS but I have yet to see a single episode of Gene Simmons' Family Jewels.

LOL - I actually hate Seagal more than I do Van Damme, but it might be fun to see an out of shape, fat cop on the beat. ;)

I have to admit, I LOVE Family Jewels *blushes*. I like the family more than Gene - Nick is a riot in his own right and its fun to watch them tease their old man - especially when you picture how "cool" the demon is on stage. I know the situations are setup, but they're still a cute family together.

(and James, you know I'd never rain on your parade or thread, just that was the first thought that entered my mind when I read the title)

I do have to give Seagal credit though - he could be retired somewhere and sitting doing nothing but he still remains active. Besides doing his own (mostly bad) direct-to-video productions he got involved with the law enforcement as a volunteer.

As Van Damme goes I actually like his movies - I think he's very good at what he does and he rarely disappoints if you like those type of movies.

As for real-life I have heard that he is a dick. I have heard he is a total diva on his movie-sets, ignores fans, and is rude to people he doesn't know.

Someone I know from my old martial arts school met him around 1999 when his fame was beginning to decline. He recognized him sitting in a diner and he approached him.

He said at first Van Damme wasn't so pleased but when he started talking about martial arts and showed no interest in an autograph, Van Damme invited him to sit down and they had a pleasant conversation. He said when Van Damme opened up that he had a good sense of humor and was rather pleasant to be around.

I guess like everyone else even the famous have their insecurities and their bad days.

About Family Jewels, I don't know I just have no desire to watch it. I actually might appear on it; last June I was at his book signing at Barnes & Noble for Ladies of the Night and they had his reality show crew there.

They told us that they were taping for his show and that we may appear. I haven't watched any of it so I don't know if I'm on - and to be honest it's not really a big deal to me; just me standing on line.

No, you didn't rain on the thread.

lol - actually it looks like Seagal HAS been sitting doing nothing for a while (other than running back and forth to the fridge ;) ). Seriously tho, you do have a point there.

I think that's mainly why I don't like Van Damme - cuz I heard he was a dink in real life, but that is cool about sitting and talking shop with that guy. I guess it all depends on when and how a celeb is approached. Just wasn't he going through women like water in his heyday and smacking them around too? (as you know, ok if they like the smackin', but not cool if not everyone's having fun ;) ).

Yah, Simmons was here last July and opened the Toronto Indy and promoting something so I'm sure the Jewels cameras were recording something for the show. They also played a concert in Oshawa (a 'burb of TO) they had promised to do. He must have come up here right after that appearance in NYC from the dates. I like listening to his marketing ideas actually. He really is a very shrewd businessman. Too bad all the original KISS guys hadn't gotten into the licensing when they should have with him.

LOL.. Seagal has a new movie every month. When my local video shop was still open the employees used to always make fun when Seagal filled the New Releases.

They kept saying it was him with that same black-coat and pointing a gun in a different direction on every cover (which was actually true).

Oh yeah, Van Damme went through a lot of trouble back then. He was very abusive and was addicted to cocaine. He was also diagnosed bipolar in 1998.

He's been married five times in his life; his current marriage is with Gladys Portugues since 1999. He was married to her briefly from 1987-1992, then they divorced, he re-married, then they both got together again.

I think he has three children.

He seems to have cleaned up himself within the past decade and recently made a comeback with JCVD; one of his most recent movies to get mainstream critical praise.

Yeah, Gene Simmons is a very smart man.

Since KISS (Stanley and Simmons) own everything KISS, the image and likeness is their property so they are able to use the costumes on the new members; which I think sucks.
