Fox's Twentieth Television is reviving the gameshow "Don't Forget the Lyrics" as a syndie/cable series.
Half-hour will air Monday-Friday in primetime on VH1 and in firstrun on Fox O&Os, probably in afternoon timeslots, in the top 10 markets. It will also air weekly in primetime on Fox's MyNetworkTV broadcast block.

Produced by RDF USA, the gamer will be hosted by Mark McGrath.

The show tests contestants' knowledge of song lyrics from a range of genres, eras and artists. A version of "Lyrics" hosted by Wayne Brady ran on the Fox net in 2007 and 2008.

Twentieth is making the show available on a cash-plus-barter basis. News of the strip came as a surprise on the first day of the NATPE programming confab in Las Vegas, which runs through Wednesday. The market for new shows for fall 2010 is thin this year, which likely encouraged Twentieth to pull together the syndie/cable combo plan for "Lyrics."

Twentieth crafted a similar cable/firstrun distrib plan last for its redo of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader," which airs in syndie, on MyNetworkTV and on cabler CMT.

I wasn't crazy about the show, but I liked Wayne Brady as the host. He's since found other work hosting LMAD on CBS. Mark McGrath should work out as host. He also has singing experience (can't remember the group he's in). This might be the show that replaces Howie's DOND if that gets pulled after this season.
