Yesterday I watched the movie "Inherit the Wind " on TCM. For those not familiar with this movie it's about a teacher who is put on trial for teaching evolution in school. Harry Morgan (Col. Sherman Potter from M*A*S*H) plays the judge. Spencer Tracy and Fredric March play the opposing lawyers. And Dick York plays the teacher. I was very impressed with Dick York's performance in this movie. I had no idea what a talented dramatic actor he was. It's a shame his career was cut short because of his back injury. He may well have been one of the better dramatic actors of his generation.

Dick York was/is one of the great underrated actors of all time. He could play comedy, drama, romance and do them all WELL. Inherit the Wind was indeed a great movie, and everyone was great in it.

Yes! Dick York was underrated as an actor. It's too bad his talent wasn't more recognized in his lifetime. I wish I would have discovered "Inherit the Wind" and some of his other films sooner. I would love to have written him a letter expressing my admiration of him.

I definitely would have written him a fan letter!! As it turned out, I DID get a chance to write to his widow, Joan, and she sent me back a lovely reply - this was about 5 years ago. I'd already gotten Bill Asher's autograph so I put them side by side in my autograph album - the real-life spouses of Samantha and Darrin!! :D

That's very cool! To have the autograph of both real spouses and to have them side by side in your photo album, that's awesome!

I have only seen parts of Inherit the Wind, but I concor that Dick York could have been just as big as a film star as a TV star.

Indeed - or as a Broadway/stage star.
