I was watching the unaired pilot on my "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES ULTIMATE COLLECTION" DVD again, and I was wondering: since CBS showed an edited version of it; exactly what was edited out of it?

Was it the version that's shown in sydnication and was on VHS? (and it's also on public domain DVDs of the show) that starts with a far shot of the Clampetts in their truck and Bill Baldwin (the announcer) says "THIS IS BEVERLY HILLS...AND HERE COME...THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES!"

I think the pilot was the first episode of the series, I thought, with no changes. I think there is a clip of Irene Ryan's audition, from December 1961, and it is a scene from the pilot as it aired. I know the pilot was shot months in advance of the September 1962 airdate. Henning had enough clout and was protective enough of his creation, that I don't think any changes were made from the selling of the pilot to production of the first episode.

The original pilot was called The Hillbillies of Beverly Hills. Among that which was definitely edited out in the final form was a scene at the end which was supposedly a preview of the following episode. The rest of this second "episode" had, of course, not been shot and when it ultimately was, the pilot scene was not in it.

no, there's not a clip of Irenes audition (although that would have been great if there was) and Linda Kaye Henning says in the introduction that CBS aired an edited version of it; and on the box it says that it's "the original, unaired pilot."
