Maybe someone can clear up something that seems sort of a mystery to me. The premise of Phyllis is that Phyllis and her daughter, Bess, have moved in with Phyllis's mother-in-law, Audrey, and her mother-in-law's new husband, Judge Jonathan Dexter, shortly after the passing of Phyllis's husband, Lars. Throughout The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and even on this show, whenever Phyllis would reference something Lars had said to her, she would do so in a Swedish accent, nothing Lars' Swedish heritage and the fact that he spoke with an accent. Well Audrey Dexter was Lars's mother, and she has no hint of a Swedish accent and seems totally American. Was there ever any reference to Audrey having moved to Sweden when she married Lars's father, and raising Lars there? It seems odd to me that Audrey, being so American and having no Swedish accent, would have had a Swedish son who spoke with a Swedish accent.

Yes was odd, also no mention was made of Phyllis' brother Ben on Phyllis.
As he was gay, would have been good to see him vist Phyllis, take her out in SF,but he was never mentioned in it.

True, and so I found it odd in the Phyllis episode, "Paging Dr. Lindstrom," when they are having a seance to try and contact Lars and the medium supposedly channels Lars and he uses an accent, Phyllis says "Lars didn't have a Swedish accent." When she said that, I thought to myself, "He didn't? Then why do you always quote him with a Swedish accent?"

Yes again you're right, also Phyllis flips when she finds out Julie dated Lars at the same time as her, before they married, she should have mentioned the Sue-Ann affair.
I think they should have made Phyllis sells houses again in season2,rather than stuck in that boring office.

Good catch, LittleRickyII. I never thought of that (the accent) but that makes so much sense now that you point that out !

Really??? That is odd that they would be that inconsistent. Then again, during the fourth season of TMTMS, we saw Rhoda run off to New York to see her sister, Debbie, get married, and Brenda was nowhere in sight. But then on Rhoda, the series, Debbie somehow never even existed.

Funny, through all these years -- and I used to watch Phyllis when it originally aired -- this question never crossed my mind. Then fairly recently it finally occurred to me and I thought, Hey, wait a minute!

On the episode where Mary comes out to San Francisco, Audrey introduces herself to Mary. My first thought was, "Wouldn't they have met already at Lars' funeral?"
